Guest guest
I know your doctor has been involved in so many clinical trials with kids, I think he at least he has a process of mediication management. I know he likes to start with an SSRI for kids with developmental disorders. I think an orderly process is so important otherwise it feels hopeless and undirected. I have read the research from your doctor that oxytocin is suppose to help with social functioning, he is doing all the research in that area. That is interesting about Buspar. It is worth a try to see if it helps your son. Did your doctor say he prefers anti-convulsant drugs for kids with developmental disorders and mood issues. I thought I read that from your doctor's research. I am hoping and praying that this doctor can methodically come up with a treatment plan that really helps. Pam > > Saw our doctor today. He thinks that has OCD and a mood disorder and that he is somewhere on the autistic spectrum. Now that his moods are somewhat stabilized, he is going to start a very low dose of Prozac and Buspar. Our past history with Prozac was initially good, then bad (in the spring when his mood destabilized?). He said that Buspar treats the anxiety without destabilizing mood and that it lessesns irritability - it also affects the release of oxytocin which has been shown to improve social functioning - both social anxiety and even social interpretation. It'll be interesting to see results. > > He said that once is functioning better, we'll try to get rid of some of his other meds. He said he has 2 clients who went to recently and are doing well. He thinks it's worthwhile for us to look into it because the kids learn so much about coping and refocusing, ect.... > > Poor Matt is so anxious and obsessive. > > To be continued..... > > Bonnie >
