Guest guest
I am so sorry you and your son are going through this. Tha sounds agonizing. It sounds like the doctor's treatments are not working, and he needs to go in a different direction. I think I would insist on an immediate appointment -- however she can work it in. You'll be in my thoughts. Steph in VA - 16 (OCD, anxiety/depression, Asperger's, NVLD) > Hi everyone. My sons doc said his suicidal ideations were OCD. Guest guest
Hello, I wish that life wasn't so hard for you right now. I can understand why a doc might not want to use Valium or Ativan, but with your son not sleeping I think it could help. If he can't sleep than anything else you might want to try would be that much harder. As we all know, it is much more difficult to try harder things when we are exhausted from not sleeping. It's also hard to imagine that a dose of Activan at night (or other sleeping aid) would hurt or lead to an addiction. Both you and your kiddo next some relief! Guest guest
I'm glad he feels too that the thoughts are OCD. I know others here have kids with tics (or may have some themselves) so maybe they can comment on the fist clench thing (hadn't heard of that). If you're willing to try supplements, since doc not willing to try your suggestions (did she prescribe anything to replace Buspar??), was wondering if you've tried melatonin for helping with sleep? Inositol powder *might* help with the picking and anxiety some. Or Kali Phos may help with panic/anxiety. Some have found Native Remedy products help. I've read magnesium helps some with tics (you can google about it). If you do try any supplements, just try one at a time so you will not what's helping or effecting negatively. Is he on any SSRI med for OCD? > > Hi everyone. My sons doc said his suicidal ideations were OCD. Right now she wants to work on the panic attacks and transient tic disorder before we tackle the ocd. Guest guest
Our son also had panic attacks. I think they were associated with his GAD. Once the GAD was under control, and the OCD was being worked on, so the anxiety associated with that was better too, the panic attacks ceased. I can't help but second guess the therapist and think the OCD thoughts should be worked on first, thinking it might make the panic attacks less. Most doctors are very reluctant to prescribe benzodizapines because of the addictive risk, but most psychiatrists do not share that concern. Sometimes the meds are needed, but yes they should not be used regularly, but as needed, to lessen that risk. Why Buspar and not an SSRI antidepressant? What are the tics attributed to? Does the doc think Tourettes? Or OCD related? Sorry you are going through such a rough time of it. We've been there and life is horrible when things are that bad. ( Has your son tried any deep diaphragmatic breathing? I talked our son through it when he was having panic attacks. It works much faster than medication. But, we also used Klonipin, as needed, until his Celexa reached a beneficial level. BJ > > Hi everyone. My sons doc said his suicidal ideations were OCD.
