Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I've been checking in on this group off and on for some time and I am so very thankful for the knowledge all of you share. My 11-yr old son was diagnosed at 9 with OCD. We went through a series of therapists for one reason or another, making no progress for almost a year. It was almost as if it gave OCD time to grow roots. When we finally found a terrific therapist, things seemed to be ever-so-gradually improving. Then school started again and he just fell to pieces. He simply could. not. function. It was just heart-wrenching, as I'm sure you know. We now have a great MD working with the therapist and eight months of prozac has helped a lot. Lately, though, we have had another significant flare-up and it has led to a difference in opinion between me and my husband. The therapist is actually an analyst and does no ERP. The more I learn about OCD, the more I am convinced that ERP therapy is necessary to reduce anxiety and symptoms. But because the therapist is such a great fit with my son, my husband feels that we should give the analyst more time to work on the underlying issues and just adjust medications as needed for the symptoms. The teenage years are just around the corner, and frankly, they scare me. I have many other questions, but would really appreciate any resources you could recommend about the importance (or non-importance) of ERP therapy and any insight you could offer. Thank you so very much.
