Guest guest
Yay!!! So glad you got in touch with Dr. n! Thrilled to hear about the OCD clinic opening, if you have more details I'd love to hear them. Will it be outpatient only or inpatient too, do you know? Love to hear about the talk too. Did Dr. organize this? Do you have an email or phone number for Dr. n? I'm wondering if she might know anyone in the Ottawa/Toronto area she can recommend. Do share anything you learn that you think might be helpful! Warmly, Barb > > Hi: > > Just realized there may be other parents in the lower mainland who might be interested in coming to this talk. It's tomorrow, doors open at 5:30. It's at Heritage Hall on Main Street Vancouver, topic: OCD in Children. It's free. Guest guest
I would encourage everyone who can, to go listen to Dr Storch. We met with him for his Scype OCD study and he is WONDERFUL and very uplifting. He is the first person to ever say the word " cure " to me and my son. Now, he did not mean cure in the traditional sense like it is gone and never again needs to be thought about, but that once it is gone, with vigilance, can be held at asymptomatic levels indefinately. He truely believes this! He is very knowlegable and open to questions and skilled with kids. My son actually thought he had OCD ( dont know if he does or not), because he was able to communicate his understanding so well.) I have never heard him speak, but if I were near by and free, would make an effort to go.
Guest guest
I'm off. Yes, I've been in touch with Dr. via email. She and others have set up this talk. I'll let you know the details of the clinic. I only found out about it from being at Children's for an intake assessment for my daughter. I'm surprised it wasn't more widely advertised. But I'm excited. Theresa > > > > Hi: > > > > Just realized there may be other parents in the lower mainland who might be interested in coming to this talk. It's tomorrow, doors open at 5:30. Guest guest
Hi Theresa, Thank you for sharing this information with others. We live in Surrey, BC and I am also looking forward to OCD clinic in Vancouver. Our daughter has severe OCD almost three years now and no treatment helped (for OCD, PANDAS or Lyme- present treatment). I couldn't find contact information for Dr. on the internet. You wrote that you have been communicating with her. Do you have her email address or her telephone number? Guest guest
Hi everyone: It was a fantastic talk. Dr. Storch is so informative and entertaining, I just wanted to pinch his cheeks. Reinforced what I've known all along: if you're getting treatment for OCD, it HAS to include ERP, and within a few sessions, if that's not happening, it's not going to help OCD. I collected a list of names of parents interested in getting together for parent support. If anyone on this list is interested, please send me a private email. I'll post more details as I get them. I did talk with Dr. too, but was just so excited about the concept of having an OCD clinic at Children's, the first in Canada, that I didn't get to asking for details re intensive or not. When I find out I'll let you know. It all happened because Lafleur from UBC helped recruit Dr. . She happened to be an OCD expert, and now an OCD clinic is coming. I was so excited I felt like I could burst, I just wanted to hug everyone...then I got home, and came crashing down to reality as my 16yo dd has been in bed all day. Deep deep depression. Up til 1:00 with her, dh stayed up with her until 3:00. She says it's not OCD, but her thought patterns have an OCD quality still. Then she gets mad at us " You just don't underSTAND!!! " and storms off. For now, we'll have to pay a private psychologist until the clinic is set up, there's still no way of getting publicly-funded ERP. Sigh. Patience is a virtue... Sorry I didn't get a chance to post Dr. 's info, but thanks Barb for looking it up and posting it.
