Guest guest
Hey all, I hope I'm not starting a major flame war here, but I just had a thought & am curious what everyone thinks, esp those on spectrum. I know some people feel hysterectomy is the only choice because of significant issues with lack of toileting, etc. I know others of us feel this is not a choice but still have concerns with birth control. I remember hearing something about a new procedure where rings can be placed around the uterine tubes (fallopian tubes) as sort of like a non-permanent birth control method. Got me thinking about it for our girls. I know for me (and I'm not telling anyone else they're wrong, just my personal situation/feelings for Allie) I feel that procreation is Allie's choice to make one day. However, birth control will probably become more of an issue as she gets older and might have intercourse before she should. Seems like the rings might be a good choice because of no hormonal side effects and the ability to reverse. Any thoughts? Debi
Guest guest
I'd worry about the surgery in someone who scars easily *looks at HUGE 5 inch keloid on ankle* but I think it's WITHOUT A DOUBT a better alternative to hysterectomy, and probably better than birth control. Birth control messes with moods and bone density and such. It'd be worth looking into, especially as its non permanant, and taking away the choice of giving life doesnt seem fair to me. I may be opting away from having my own kids in favor of adopting when the time is right b/c of MY inheritable weirdnesses (not the autism so much, other stuff) but I sure wouldnt want someone irrevocably making that decision for me. Especially not when I was a child. (besides, oh heavens how I scar...this sounds laparaoscopic...) Good topic, Debi! thought provoking. Guest guest
I too am glad to hear that many parents do not wish to go the rout of sterilization. I know I still have a little while left, but my oldest is 6 now and I started my menses at age 8 so I know that the whole period junk is not too far off. I still do not have my daughter potty trained, so the thought of her period is very frightening, but I refuse to use any form of birth control on her. Not because I am against planned births or anything like that, but strictly due to the damaging effects that the modern birth control can give anyone, let alone those with sensitive immune systems. Please consider reading the article at the following website: http://www.spiritofhealing.com/articles/html/menopause.htm I am only 27 years old as of last month and yet I am already going through menapause. I firmly believe that birth control is a huge part of why and the fact that I too have a sensative and damaged immune system and body. Please, before you make a choice like this for your child, read the article I linked and at least try to research and look into what it is saying. You will find a wealth of information. My doctors are still trying to help me get my period back and there is a lot of damage that can happen to the rest of your organs and system when one thing is messed up and out of sync. I am sorry I don't have more time to write and explain more right now, but wanted you to know this much.
