FW: Natural alternative or SSRI's ( AMORYN )

Hi I did some search on google about any new treatment for OCD I found this

natural alternative called ( AMORYN ) I don't know if it is to be tried and have

a risk in doing that, & these are some stories about people who tried this

product, what do you think? I want to mention that my son has OCD since more

that 13 years he is much better graduated fom university majoring Landscape

Design & he is workiing since three years & doing fine, but he is still taking

medecine Apiligy & Faverin, I don,t know if somebody can take the risk as I

mentioned to stop these SSRI'S & give him this alternative.

Hi Huda, I'm glad your son is still doing well, I know he had some rough times

with his OCD.

I googled the Amoryn and it says it has: St. 's Wort, 5-HTP and Rhodiola

Rosea. Seems like I have seen that combo, or similar, in other products.

I know that *separately*, some have felt SJW or 5HTP have helped in their cases.

took SJW alone, I was hoping it would at least help with the depression

caused by OCD, but no effect on him. Though SJW has helped others with

depression, so can't go by our experience alone. We also tried 5HTP alone, but

same result, and again, 5HTP has helped some others, per what parents have

written.

So I guess, as is usual, it is just a *try it and see if it helps!* type

product. That's what we did with inositol powder for in middle school

and it helped him then.

Just a quick minute, and wanted to chime in... you can't take St.'s wort

with an ssri, and it interacts(negatively) with many other drugs. So that would

mean clearing the medication out of his system first, a big step to consider.

It is also problematic for anyone with bipolar disorder, can trigger mania,

sometimes you don't know this is there, until you do... Other schizophrenia and

other disorders.

This is a powerful herb, and can really help some with depression, but you

really need to be careful about interactions.

Here is a quote from the national institute of health, and the link follows -

" St. 's wort increases a brain chemical called serotonin. Some medications

for depression also increase the brain chemical serotonin. Taking St. 's

wort along with these medications for depression might increase serotonin too

much and cause serious side effects including heart problems, shivering, and

anxiety. Do not take St. 's wort if you are taking medications for

depression. "
