Guest guest
Hello, I haven't posted in a long while, but my dd age 18 has been trying to discontinue meds and just tanked today. She has anxiety, dysthymic depression and although never officially dx, some ocd. She had been on Zoloft 100 mg since age 13 but was switched to Cymbalta last year because of sleepiness. Unfortunately it made her sick to her stomach so she decided to discontinue it. Cold turkey It was one of those things where she was feeling okay anxiety wise and thought she could handle it. Well, 6 weeks later she just tanked. I was afraid of this, but her being 18 I had to let her try it. Last week she went back to her p-doc who put her back on Celexa, at her request. Today she called me in a panic and couldn't even go into work, her anxiety had returned with a vengeance. She has been fighting it for about a week. My biggest concern is her weight loss ... about 15 pounds in a couple months. She is pretty tiny to start with. She told me that the Celexa hasn't kicked in yet and knows it takes a little while. P=Doc also has given Niravam (Xanax) to help with breakthrough anxiety but she says it just makes her woozy and still anxious so she doens't like take it. She doesn't feel like eating, is anxious even when driving (which used to be relaxing to her). I'm just so sad about this and don't know where to begin. She'd been doing really well and this feels like such a setback. Any thoughts as to what I can do to help her through this? I have a call in to her psychiatrist but I know I won't hear til monday. And she is discouraged with him because she says that while he listens to her all he really does is throw meds at her. What do you do when your child is a young adult and is trying to " take charge " of their own meds and care and just struggles? Any help is appreciate ... thanks for letting me vent ...
