Guest guest
My son had a very sudden and severe onset of OCD at 16. He tried Luvox and Celexa. Lexapro helped him the most and he has been on it for 10 years with no side effects. His OCD is manageable today. Dana -Kennedy OCD Severe We have tried: Luvox, Celexa, Seroquel, Lamictal, Nuerontin, Trilepatl and Depakote. They all mader her worse. She is only on Lamictal right now to keep her a bit calm, but OCD is out the roof. what else is out there? Pdoc has something new she wants to try but I wanted to ask you first. Thanks for suggestions?

Guest guest
Wilma, you may have already said, but do you have a psychiatrist managing medications? Guest guest
Yes. My girl is not doing well with what she is trying, but she is very supportive and trying very hard to get my girl relief. It looks as if my girl has PANDAS and possible Lymes. > Wilma, you may have already said, but do you have a psychiatrist managing medications? > > Barb > > > > > > We have tried: Luvox, Celexa, Seroquel, Lamictal, Nuerontin, Trilepatl and Depakote. Guest guest
Have you ever had her thyroid checked? I am reading a book called " The Thyroid Solution " and it talks about how when the thyroid is not working properly it can cause anxiety and OCD. I have a child with severe OCD and we are having her thyroid checked next week. My mom and I both have low thyroid. Worth checking out. Guest guest
In the anti-depressant class for pediatrics there is still prozac an anti-depressant drug that is metabolized by the p450 2D6. There are others like zoloft but zoloft and celexa are both p450 C19 drugs so it is unlikely that zoloft will perform much better than celexa. Your daughter's psychiatrist has moved on to anti-convulsant drugs and anti-psychotic. I guess the thinking is that she needs a mood stablizer first. I doubt they will go back and try prozac alone, now that they are onto mood stabizers. It sounds like lamitral is working to keep her calmer. That is good. This is an anti-convulsant drug used as a mood stabizer (as is depakote, nuerontin, trlepatl). There still is Abilify to try an anti-psychotic drug that improves serotoin levels and moderates dopamine. Abilify is in the p450 2D6 class and Seroguel which she already tried is in the 3A4 class. So Abilify is worth a try. Once they feel she is on the right mood stabilzer and lamitral may be it, they may try different anxiety medications, wellbutin, buspar. For sure medications like klonipin will lower anxiety but they do not like to use this class of medications in kids under the age of 16. But for severe anxiety (not necessary OCD) the benzo class of medications can help reduce severe anxiety quickly in adults. I wish you the best of luck finding a medication that will help.
