Your email is absolutely heartbreaking. I am so sorry to hear what you

and your daughter are going through. I know there are other folks on the

board who will have common situations and will discuss it all openly with you.

I thank God every day that my daughter's experience with OCD was not

severe.

You will find much comfort and support with this group. Thoughts &

prayers coming your way for your family and especially your sweet girl.

Judy, (((hugs))) So sorry that's happened. You're not the first to make a trip

to the emergency room or to have to hospitalize their child. Hopefully they

can get her stable on a better medication or dose. That's what they'll work

towards. Have you talked to the hospital yet, any news on how she's doing??

As hard and stressful as this time is, do take it as a " break " for you. Try to

relax, find some *me* time. And don't feel guilty about it.

What type OC behaviors doe she deal with?

Hi there! I am a mother of four and myself and my almost 12 year old have OCD.

I just want to say that, yes, OCD is terrible, horrible and has caused us much

pain, but don't loose hope, there are more resources out there than there ever

have been. Don't give up on your daughter, no matter how painful it gets. It

took us awhile to get medications right and to have doctors who listened.

What type of OCD does she have? I know that it doesn't matter what the

obsessions are, but like for my daughter and I, the obsessions were of a graphic

and violent nature and were offensive to us but also to others around us who had

no insight as to what was going on.

Don't give up no matter how dark, you are not alone in this and we understand

where you are at and all the emotions that go with it.

Learn as much as you can about OCD and you will get the help that she needs.

My daughter went from needing to wake me up several times and night because she

was afraid she would choke herself, she never went into the kitchen or even

looked at it for fear that she would grab a knife and hurt someone, (This is the

same child who would bring spiders outside if I found them in the house because

she didnt want me to kill them.)to

Now, she isn't OCD free, but has returned to herself and is mostly carefree! She

can use a knife to help me with dinner without having thoughts about hurting

someone.

She sleeps through the night and is the child she was before the OCD came.

Hang in there and don't be afraid to vent here.

We get it...

Hi Judy. I know how hard it is. You mentioned CBT. Was your dd also receiving

ERP or even DBT? My dd was in the hospital for 60 days and all of those were

used. They were finally able to get her meds right for her and get things under

control. She was severely ill and nonfunctional for over 3 years. She is now in

college and thriving. It is a horrible feeling to have them in the hospital but

hopefully she will get the help she needs. My dd's place encouraged me to trust

them to take care of her and for me to take care of myself while she was

hospitalized. Trust me, we have been through tons of meds, and 5 therapists

before we hit on what my dd needed. Whatever you do, don't give up hope! Stormy

Thank you for sharing your story, which is similar to mine.  My daughter has

recently developed extremely violent obsessions.    I just learned about EBT

yesterday, and thus far my daughter has only been doing CBT.  I am moving her,

at the suggestion of her doctors at the hospital, to a LP in our community who

has training in several different therapies.  They also increased her meds.

I don't know that type of OCD she has.  I think they are trying to figure it

out.

I'm glad to know your child is doing better.  It is nice to have that hope.  It

brought tears to my eyes when you said she is the child you experienced before

the OCD.  Those were such wonderful and carefree days!

Thank you all for your notes and support.  I really, really appreciate it.

Judy,

Just another quick note that was helpful to those around me and my daughter

while we were in the thick of it...I'm not sure about your daughter

specifically, but the obsessions (violent, etc..) are so horrible to the person

having them, the obsessions actually go against what the person's belief system

holds dear. That is incredibly painful and anxiety provoking for the person who

just " can't stop thinking it " (What kind of person am I? Could I really do this

thing? and all the questioning leads to doubt...which leads to anxiety...which

triggers a thought...etc...)

We actually all have wierd thoughts from time to time but are able to shrug them

off, these thoughts of violence are so alarming to the person who has OCD, they

just keep revisiting them...but my point is no matter how disturbing the

thoughts sound to you, its just OCD...

I realize there may be more to it for your daughter, than just this piece and I

will pray for your family.

This was helpful tto know about the obsessions, for my husband and other family

members who had never experienced this kind of thing before.

Take care!
