Hi, welcome!!

We live in a small city also, I know how difficult it can be to find help! So

did " whoever " diagnosed her, will they provide therapy too or do you have to

search for a therapist? The OCD Foundation website has a " search " function you

can check to see if anyone in your region has listed themselves there.

I found that I just had to read/research on how to treat OCD, how the therapy

works and then we had to manage on our own. A therapist would have been a huge

help though.

Sounds like you'll have to educate the school about OCD. I know when my son

began with OCD in 6th grade, they only knew of one other student and that was a

contamination type issue that meds helped. My son's OC behaviors weren't the

more commonly known behaviors that people associate with OCD. So I had to

educate them!

Sigh, that teacher is really going to have to change her attitude and approach.

Have you had a meeting with the school yet about her having OCD? If not, I

would call the guidance counselor there and talk about setting up a meeting due

to the difficulties in school that her OCD is causing. Having to repeat her

walking (in and out) and the yellow color, etc., is a start. Anything else at

school?

I know at home it " all " comes out. How is your daughter feeling about having

the OCD diagnosed, does she feel relieved that it's not *her* but OCD??

Glad you found our group,

Good, I'm glad they can do therapy with her. And great that the medication is

helping so much. Did she just start that last month after her diagnosis??

I'm happy she feels better to know it's OCD. There are some good children books

about OCD, have you looked at any of them? Some great books for parents too! :)

I still don't like how the teacher was handling her at school, what she'd say.

I think when you talk to them you should have in mind *how* you want them to

address her OCD during school. Example, if she repeats some things, ignore, but

if it is too many times, taking time, whatever, then try prompting her to start,

move on, go to seat.... My son had difficulty just picking up a pencil

sometimes; other times he'd have the pencil in his hand but be " stuck " and not

be able to begin. Sometimes it helped when the teacher would tell him to get

started, sort of unstick him. And of course, sometimes it didn't unstick him,

but we had in his Plan that he could bring home unfinished work from school.

Again, glad you found our group. It's been my best support through all these

years, having a place with people who understand!

Welcome, .

So sorry to hear what is going on with your daughter at school.

You mentioned you talked to the counselor and principal, but do you have an IEP

or 504 plan in place?

Here is a link that explains. . .

http://www.ed-center.com/504

Look in our files (8th down from the top) and it covers a number of school

related issues with OCD. Hopefully you can find something there that will be

helpful too.

Glad you found us.
