Guest guest
Hi BJ. Have you ever looked into PANDAS? You have helped me so much in the past with my child.... she is a complicated case, but she is really coming along since treating for PANDAS. Wilma > That's wonderful news, Leanne. Just wonderful. ) > > I don't think our son has ever been symptom free, even when he was at his best. > > There was a time, when he was doing well, that we opted to take him off of his meds, and he relapsed horribly, and was the worst he's ever been. I say that not to scare you, but to tell you to go slow, and watch him closely. Do not be afraid to ask how he is doing. Our son had many things going on inside his head that we were unaware of. When I asked him later why he didn't tell us he was starting to have problems again, he said it came on so gradually, that he didn't realize what was going on until it was completely out of control again. He relapsed after 8 months of being off of the medication, so it wasn't right away. > > I hope you have much better luck with it than we did. Some can go off of meds and never need them again. I hope you are one of them. Unfortunately, our son was not. I suspect it might have to do with the severity of the OCD. > > Blessings~ > > BJ > > > > > > Hi Everyone, > > Haven't posted in a very long time. You may or may not remember our story. My son was diagnosed Jan '09 with with OCD, w/contamination fears and fears of the physically and mentally challenged. I'm delighted to report that therapy ended in October and after a few extra exposures on our own, he will be ready to try med reduction in January when he sees his MD. We asked for no OCD for Christmas, and we got it. So blessed! I thank God everyday I got my boy back. My prayer is the same for all of you. Thanks for the support we received - this is an awesome board! > > Sincerely, > > Leanne in WI > > > >
Guest guest
Wilma, that is absolutely great! So glad to hear she is doing so well. ) Really, so very happy for you. It's just so wonderful to hear of improvement. Yes, we have. His titers were normal. And despite him having strep when he was young, as most kids do, it did not set off his existing OCD. He actually weathered it well during his episodes with strep. He has a long " genetic " history, on his father's side (grandfather, uncle, 2 aunts, 2 cousins, father all have it), and showed symptoms of OCD since he was a toddler. And he is now 18, so even if he did have the signs of PANDAS, which he didn't (no sudden onset either) he is older where treatment is recommended when they are younger, from what I've read. He also suffers from GAD, which isn't caused by PANDAS, and he responds well to the SSRI medication, which those with PANDAS often do not. But, even with the meds, we see signs of the OCD here and there, which isn't actually uncommon, from what I've read. The medication does not remove the OCD, but lowers the intensity of it along with the anxiety. That coupled with therapy has given him the most relief, and there have been times where his OCD has been quiet, although I noticed things others wouldn't or didn't, but it never seems to go completely away. I think that is expected. It is a chronic, lifelong disorder, that takes lifelong management. So, I think we are in the category of traditional OCD. But, thanks for thinking of us, Wilma. ) Blessings, BJ > > > > > > Hi Everyone, > > > Haven't posted in a very long time. You may or may not remember our story.
