Guest guest
, lol, that will be interesting! So what is the purpose of curse words? Is that part of her " just right " OCD? Happy to hear she's doing so well! > > Good Evening! > > My daughter Sara has " just right " OCD. She is on zoloft in a " study " and we got the dose right where she needs it and she is doing great! > > Her CBT for this week is to use curse words and insult our clothing if she doesnt like it and she has to go through my closet and tell me everything she doesnt like. Therapist told her she had to say 20 bad words by the time she got to the car well that was well over 2 hours ago and the only thing she could muster up was a text message to her dad that said " therapy was crappy " ....lol She thinks that saying crappy once fulfilled her duty...... > > This week goes against everything I have taught the kids about being nice and respectful...I know have to encourage her to be a little mean and use bad words...I almost think this is some kind of CBT for me! > > Should be an interesting week for us > > >
Guest guest
Oh, okay. Do let us know how she's doing with it by her next appointment. > > Well the therapist explained it to me but it got a little complicated but apparently it isnt actually the curse words....its the thought process behind them. She NEVER says them or thinks about them and feels anxiety when other people say them (its ok when hubby and i say them) She doesnt do or say anything mean EVER! Therapist said things like this are the " little " aspects of OCD that dont always get treated.
Guest guest
Hi , So glad to hear you have gotten the medication at an effective dose. I remember just a few months ago you were struggling with this. What dose ended up being best? It can make all the difference in their ability to participate in the ERP therapy, when they are at the optimal dose. Our son is similar with cursing, and other " moral " things. The only way past it is to take the power away from the words by using them, repeatedly, or exposing yourself to them somehow (which isn't too hard usually!). Ours still doesn't swear, but is ok with hearing it and he wasn't before. I used to think I just had a well mannered kid - now I know it was OCD making him be so " good " . Good luck with this ERP!!! Keep us posted. Warmly, Barb > > > > Good Evening! > > > > My daughter Sara has " just right " OCD.
