Hello,

I just started Kineret 5 days ago but am still on high dose of pred. so I

don't know if I will truly feel the full of effect of the Kinerret until pred at

reduced. I am tapering down but still on 30mg a day! Thus far I do feel better

than I did a few weeks ago no real joint pain right now just battling the EVER

so itchy rash & the effects of pred.

Who out there takes Kineret? As soon as the Gods of Insurance deem me worthy

enough to receive the benevolence of their coverage, I am going to begin the

injections. I have tapered to 10 mgs of the dreaded prednisone daily and my

rheumy doesn't want me to go any lower. I also take 200mg (the highest dosage)

of Imuran daily. So now we'll through Kineret into the cocktail and see if that

works. Rheumy says that if the Kineret doesn't work then we're going to try

Rituxan. But that is a last ditch effort.

So, if you take Kineret I'd like to hear your experiences, good or bad. Look

forward to your responses and I truly, truly hope we all can one day beat this

dragon and that you have a pain free day.

You are my brothers and sisters,

Joe

Hi Joe

I have been on Kineret for nearly three years now and it has really made a

difference for me. I started it after having a very serious infusion reaction

to Remicade. I have been able to wean off Prednisone and Methotrexate, and

currently use Arava and Kineret together. I have had the usual infection issues

with a suppressed immune system, including a septic joint last fall that

required surgery and 8 weeks of IV antibiotics 3x per day. I think it was to my

benefit that I was on Kineret at the time, because I ended the daily injections

as soon as I realized I had Staph infection in my blood. Because you take it

every day, it leaves your system rather quickly. This allowed me to better

fight the infection, and may very well have saved my life, or at least my knee.

Doc says one more day of the knee being full of staph (22 " in circumference!)

and I would have lost the joint...meaning a knee replacement at age 34. WHEW!

All in all, I am very happy with the way Kineret seems to work for me. My

rheumy agrees. I have been on Enbrel and Remicade before, but this seems to

agree with my body better than anything else we have tried in the last 7 years.

I hope the Insurance gods smile on you! Good Luck

Hi Joe,

I have taken Kineret for about a year and a half now with great

success. It took a few weeks to get into the system, but now that

it has, I have much less symptoms - especially the fatigue.

I occassionally will get a bruise from the shot, but that's about it

for me. I know others have rashes sometimes. It does hurt a bit

more than Enbrel to inject, but I'm used to it by now. I can tell

when I barely prick if it's going to hurt in the spot I picked and

will move it if it does. I can only inject in my lower abdomen -

hurts way too much in the legs.

Good luck and tell us how it goes! It took awhile for insurance to

approve me, but they did. Their big concern was that I was so young

to be taking a drug that they don't know much about the outcomes

of. But I told the codgy doc at the insurance company that I know

the risks and he is only supposed to say yes or no based upon the

approved uses of that drug for my condition. Got it approved!

I think it's worth it - heck I'd take Vioxx if they would release it

again.

Keep us updated!

Joe,

I just finished my 2nd week on Kineret. It must be working, because earlier

this week I didn't get up as early as I had been to set out the syringe and then

give the shot an hour later. I was so stiff, I had to have help getting my

joints moving again. I recommend to try and select a time of day where you can

give the injection at approximately the same time. I can also tell you that I

have had some injection site reactions. The reactions are mostly bruising and a

recently a small rash. I am also on Methotrexate and Salsalate.

Good Luck with the Kineret.
