Guest guest
Becky, well my other 2 sons are out of the home. Though just graduated college, his apartment lease doesn't run out until August. I know he's hoping to NOT move back, lol. So I consider him and my oldest son as out of the house now. Our " special " kids. Well, does have Aspergers. It can be difficult to know if some areas are " " or " Aspie " . I wish I didn't work, would then try to work with him more on " life skills. " The OCD stuff - no, I don't think that is holding him back from life/moving out, not in his case, his type of OCD. It may affect his choices with things, what with his having Scrupulosity type OCD. I assume some OCD behaviors/obsessions could really have consequences with moving out on their own. If were still having the same kind he had when in middle school, don't think he could move out. I mean, he could get stuck HOURS with stuff, don't think he could manage that on his own alone! So am really thankful that is behind him (us!) He really wants to find a job near Raleigh, a couple hours away. So that's motivation. He just put in another application. If this one doesn't pan out, then I will have to nag/push him to apply at Walmart or elsewhere around here, though being " rural " we don't have much here. With the Aspie part, he can't be driving back/forth very far each day with much traffic/highways. He still is like a " teen " in that he stays on his laptop, watches TV, in another part of the house, so really doesn't interrupt " me " or get in my way so far as his being home. > > > How are you coping with him living at home? ARe we never done taking care of our kids? Do our " special " kids not ever grow up and leave home and become financially independent? I'm having a panic attack here. > Becky >

Guest guest
I've thought of volunteering at the hospital too, and may at least push that. One thing with him about getting just *a* job, is he'd feel bad quitting if he got offered a job he really wanted. So volunteering would be easier for him right now. > > I took my son in to our local hospital to sign up as a volunteer and they have been great so far. I figure this will give my son some real experience to put on his job applications, though unpaid! Also will give him a sense of going to work. Our local state college also does internships so I am hoping that will be an avenue for us as well. Any other ideas? > Rhonda > > Re: chris > > > > > How are you coping with him living at home?
