Guest guest
I think it may depend on your child's age, size and weight. When my dd started Zith, she was 7 years old and about 60lbs. The pediatirican prescribed 350mg for 5 days then dropped it to 175 prophylactically for until we saw a specialist. When we saw Dr. B two months later, he upped it back up to 350 for another month, then down to 200 - 250 prophylactically. What do you mean by a " high reactor? " Does she respond quickly? Or does she tend to suffer side effects easily. Did your doctor say anything about taking probiotics? Since antibiotics get rid of both bad and good bacteria, you may want to consider adding these to you child's regiment. They help restore the good bacteria. At the very least, have her take yogurt with live active cultures. Dr. B told us to give our daughter Culturelle as well. It comes in capsule form and we just open the capsule and put it juice, milk or even water. Guest guest
How much does she weigh? Does she have an active strep infection or are you ttreating high titers? I would personally give the whole 250mg for 10 days. If you see improvement within those 10 days, you may want to consider extending the course. Sometimes it takes more thn 10 days to even see any changes. A lot of people ask for a 30 day trial. Three of my children take azithromycin 250mg/day. We did not see results with a lower dose. > > my girl is a realy high reactor to meds. the doctor wants her to start on 250mg of the azith. has anyone heard of perhaps starting on half the amount? i will cal the doctor too. just wanted to ask you guys first. or should i just go for it? >
Guest guest
our doctor said to Avoid yogurt and cold cheese products (mozzarella sticks, etc). while taking the aziith. i thought it was the opposite, right? > I think it may depend on your child's age, size and weight. Guest guest
Hmmm. Did s/he say why? Some doctors/parents have indicated that certain probiotics/yogurts and cheese (like mozarella) have strep cultures in them and that these can potentially exacerbate things. If that is the reason, then avoid those that have those cultures (I belive they begin with " S. " ) There are a few different posts discussing this on Latitudes. You can get some recomendations on those that don't have them. I believe Kefir does not have S. bacteria. I don't think Culturelle does either.
