Guest guest
Hi everyone, I think I've only posted on here once when we were at the beginning of discovering that our 9 year old has OCD (along with ADHD), but everyone was such a big help. And I still read the boards and get lots of good info from everyone, even if I'm not posting. But I wanted to share a resource for anyone looking for a summer camp. We sent Nate to Camp Firefly (which is right near Wisconsin Dells) last summer and were absolutely thrilled with his experience there. As you know, our kids often have a hard time fitting in with other kids, and this camp is all about having a good time doing all the things you would do a any other camp, but they work specifically with the kids to help them with their social skills and self esteem. I feel like crying when I think of how wonderful they were with Nate. It's a 10 day camp this year (overnight). They have 2 counselors assigned to every 4 kids, and the director meets with all the kids personally so she can match them up with kids she thinks they'll form friendships with. Anyway, Nate's going back next year and I just got the letter from the new director and thought I'd pass this resource on to anyone who's looking for something like this. Oh, it's targeted for " children diagnosed with social difficulties, such as high-functioning autism, social anxiety, and OCD. " The website is: www.campfireflyjcfs.com. (Oh, and it's run by Jewish Children and Family Services, but isn't run like a religious camp, if that's a concern.) We loved it. It was a huge boost for Nate and he's gained a lot in personal responsibility since then.
