Guest guest
I don't know . I am in the same boat-no school. I have no clue why as it is not snowy here just cold-too cold for outside-which will make today extremely hard!! Hopefully you will get some good help today! > > What do you do for your non-OCD kids? No school today due to extreme weather. When my 8yo daughter came downstairs, I told her. She said she figured when she didn't hear yelling. My heart sank. I pulled her onto my lap and hugged her and apologized. She said " I hear yelling at night too. " Me crying, hugging her, I told her that we are working on getting her sister the help she needs to try to get this under control. > > I can keep my voice pretty even (most the time) when I am giving my 14yo germophobe daughter, , time notices through the door of the bathroom. Although, even if I keep my voice level, she does not. My husband has no patience for this entire situation and yells. On one hand (the logical, before OCD part of my brain) says we need to cut this off ourselves if she won't, but as I am learning about what may be going through her head, geez louise, what the hell do you do? > > Good news, & I am hoping a big help, is that she has her first psychiatrist appointment today. If we can just get meds that will short circuit this enough to make headway, I think we could all breathe much easier. > > in MI >
Guest guest
. I am so sorry. Sometimes I am glad that I only have one child. Ugh, it must be so tough when you see the others affected. I pray you get some peace. > What do you do for your non-OCD kids? No school today due to extreme weather. When my 8yo daughter came downstairs, I told her. Guest guest
Hi, . I don't have any non-OCD kids. Our son is an only child. But, I think I would treat it similar to the way I did with my husband. I educated him. And I explained OCD to him, (despite him having it too). As I attended appointments with our son, I took what I was taught home, and shared it with my husband, to try to bring the outbursts to a halt, as we are worked together against the OCD. I read a number of books on OCD too, which helped me to understand it better, and the hold it had on our son. There will still be occasional outbursts, because nobody is perfect. .We all reach our breaking point, but it can minimize them. It is heartbreaking what OCD can do to a family. So sorry your daughter is being affected negatively. Glad to hear you have your psychiatry appointment today. Have you been able to find a good therapist yet? Let us know how it goes today. ) BJ > > What do you do for your non-OCD kids? No school today due to extreme weather. When my 8yo daughter came downstairs, I told her. Guest guest
Thank you to everyone who responded and for the few who contacted me directly as well. As far as my 8yo. We had a talk where I explained that if there is yelling, it is NOT because we don't love each other. " Your sister has something going on her head that tells her that she has to keep washing. We don't really understand it either, so we are taking her to doctors who can help her and us try to get things back to normal. " Last night's shower was (as has continually been) the worst yet. Every time I think THIS is the worst, the next day tops it. Last night, though, after the talk with her sister, when would get yelling, I would remind her that she can say whatever she wants, but she cannot yell because her little sister is trying to sleep. The psychiatrist appointment went well. She prescribed Zoloft which we started this morning. Since the psychiatrist had requested blood work up, I now have an appointment with her pediatrician today to get those done. Thanks to a number of you who have stressed PANDAS I finally took the time to read up on the symptoms, I will also ask about the strep tests. The one physical symptom that really stood out was the dilated pupils. OMG!! EVERY time I look at her when she opens the bathroom door her eyes are like saucers. I remember mentioning to my husband, " It looks like she's stoned. " Not the lethargy, but the pupils. And I KNOW she's not doing drugs. Unfortunately, the psychiatrist ordered urine tests to check for pregnancy & drug use. She completely LOST IT at that idea! If, after washing her hands for half an hour, she STILL thinks her hands are not clean enough to wash her hair, she is NOT ready to pee in a cup! My husband suggested rubber gloves, she said " it doesn't matter! " I am going to ask to shelve those tests until (God willing) things settle some. Thank you all again for giving me a place to vent to people who understand! in MI > > What do you do for your non-OCD kids?> > in MI >
