Guest guest
Hi, I do not know anything about the blood test, but my 11 year at the time, daughter responded very well to lexapro and she had no side effects. She took 5 mg for about two years. She has been med free for several months, and is doing well. Guest guest
Amy, great news that she's doing so well off of medication! Always love to read that! > > > Has anyone had better amxiety management with Lexapro? > > My daughter's therapist said she knows many child psychiatrist > > like to prescribe zoloft but she said she has seen > > amazing changes with kids that switch to lexapro. > > > > She also said one of her families took their child to the > > Mayo Clinic in MN and that they were able to determine > > she was a non responder to zoloft but would do better > > on lexapro. > > > > Has anyone any experience on lexapro or know anything > > about this blood test? > > > > Pam > > > > teachingfamily theraps > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Pam, found this from Mayo site: Results of genetic tests. In some cases, blood tests can help pinpoint genetic factors that might influence your response to certain antidepressants. The test doesn't predict which antidepressant will work best for you. But it may suggest which ones may not work, and which ones may cause the worst side effects. This type of testing isn't widely used yet, but it's becoming more common. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/antidepressants/HQ01069 And this: Having the cytochrome P450 (CYP450) genotyping test. This test checks for specific genes that affect how your body uses antidepressants. It can help predict whether your body can or can't process (metabolize) a medication. This may help identify which antidepressant might be a good choice for you. There is some evidence that other tests for certain genes that regulate the neurotransmitter serotonin may help predict if you're likely to respond to a serotonin antidepressant. These genetic tests aren't widely available, so they're only an option for people who have access to a clinic that offers them. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/treatment-resistant-depression/DN00016/NSECTION\ GROUP=2 Also this (interesting about response time to meds): http://www.mayomedicallaboratories.com/test-catalog/print.php?unit_code=83302 I've read about trials or research regarding testing for which SSRI would be best for a person. Been a while. Don't know that it's common yet either, just have read here/there over years about possible testing for it. > > Has anyone had better amxiety management with Lexapro? > My daughter's therapist said she knows many child psychiatrist > like to prescribe zoloft but she said she has seen > amazing changes with kids that switch to lexapro. >

Guest guest
Our 13-year-old OCD daughter is currently on Lexapro. Her mood has brightened somewhat and I see no side effects. I myself am now taking Lexapro too to show my daughter it is not harmful. I have noticed no side effects other than some minor insomnia. I do feel less anxious on it. Our daughter was off meds for a few months this summer since we were switching doctors. Under her old doctor she took Zoloft 150 mg for about a year. She had no real side effects from the Zoloft either...I think her rages were a little less intense on the Zoloft vs the Lexapro, but I haven't really seen a big difference. Both meds seem to help. Good luck and I hope you find what works for you and your daughter! It's a lot of trial and error with medication!
