Guest guest
Kineret is an Interleukin blocker. This link is sort of technical but does compare the IL's and TNF's http://www.hopkins-arthritis.som.jhmi.edu/news-archive/2003/il1trap.html You can find information on Kineret at www.kineretrx.com Enbrel, Remicade and Humira and Orencia are TNF blockers. See link below for details about TNF's. http://www.midwestarthritis.com/Pages/TNF%20blockers.html Orencia® (abatacept), the first selective modulator of a co-stimulatory signal required for full T-cell activation, for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). For more on ORENCIA, check these links. NOTE: Orencia is NOT reccommended to be used with TNF blockers. http://www.bms.com/news/press/data/fg_press_release_6097.html http://www.orencia.com/orencia/splash/content/content.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes & con\ tentId=News_About_Orencia http://www.orencia.com/Splash/Includes/ORENCIA_PPI.pdf Recent studies and clinical trials have shown that a lot of patients with Stills do seem to respond better to Kineret but there is no conclusive proof so far or at least none published in any current works that I could find. I just remember hearing this from my Rheumatologist and reading it somewhere. On the other hand, many do well on the TNF's as well. Some can't tolerate Kineret at all. If you fail one TNF, you still should try the others as they all work in slightly different ways. There is also research being conducted that will " test " a person to see which BRM will work best for him / her but that reality is most likely a long ways off in the future. Best bet is to talk to your doctor and see what he thinks is best for you, given your particular circumstances and case of Stills. This disease is very individual in some ways. Best wishes for a wise drug choice that will work the first time. I tried Humira with some results but very slow in the coming. I took it for 8 months. I was switched to Kineret and felt immediate results, like in 5 minutes or so after I injected. I've been taking Kineret for almost 2 years now. It keeps me on my feet .... as good as I get anyway. Cost: They are all about the same for a months supply... in the $1200 - 1500.00 price range per month. If you don't have insurance and need one of these drugs, most of the manufacturers will donate it for you with a doctor's note that it is medically necessary for you. Dosing: Kineret = daily pre filled glass syringes home injected by patient. Enbrel = twice a week, reconstituted mixing, patient home injects Humira = every week or two, prefilled, " arthritis assist " (has attached " handles " for ease of injections by arthritic hands) injectable for home use Remicade = every 4 - 8 weeks infusion at doctors office, hospital or clinic Orencia = reconstituted medication given by IV similar to Remicade and doses are similar schedule. Hope this helps clear up some of the questions you may have had. Guest guest
Hey Caroline, Update--the new Enbrel can be done in one weekly injection (I think it's 50 mg) and doesn't need mixing. in Maine > > Enbrel = twice a week, reconstituted mixing, patient home injects > >
