Guest guest
Well... I can tell you that apart from total exhaustion, the exhileration of it all outweighs the misery of the sore feet, sore muscles and weary bones. Kakadu was spectacular... walked to Jim Jim Falls... couldn't have done it 18 kilos and a packet of ciggies a day ago. It was hard hard work, but I did it... others failed when I kept going. An NSV I suppose. Did Arnhem land, did Barra Gorge, have seen so much in such a short amount of time, it is unbelievable. Biggest mistake, not buying the pearl earings in Paspaley on day 1... wish I had. The Ghan was FANTASTIC... mind blowing in fact. A bit like a retirement village on rails, but we were the youngest in gold class by about 20 years I think.... but we had fun. We stopped at and did a tour of Gorge, fantastic. Lovely to lay in our beds looking at the stars and the night dessert going past as we clickety clacked down to Tennant Creek and then onto The Alice. Alice is better than I expected, but one night here will be more than enough. We did a day trip yesterday after we got off the train to Standley Chasm and Simpsons gap... again, mind blowing it was. Dingos and rock wallabies galore. Off to the Rock today for our dinner in the dessert for sunset at the rock, and then tomorrow we are doing the Harley ride around the rock... We have eaten all the local fauna - including the national emblem animals... best so far, croc stirfry - and of course favourite drink was a Kakadu Chameleon... excellent it was. Right, off to pack the bags and get to the airport for our flying adventure out to the Rock... god help me... I think I am going to puke, but somehow I will manage it. Will be home Wednesday night - catch up again then. Mel
