Oh what a glorious way for me to start my day...dearest Shona..if you see

this...there is an Irish/American woman who thinks of you all the time!! I have

had this for a while and I am sure you will have many many good /great

years. The beginning is usually the hardest....but no real rules apply. Marie I

grew up in Bayside Queens . Lived there for 37 years. All my childhood friends

live in Long Island...some day when I go I will let you know. Three cheers

for Shona being in remission!!!! Hugs and a Jig .....Liz NJ

Hello Marie

Thank you for your update on Shona. The MRSA bug is very severe but can be

cured with antibiotics which seems to be happening with Shona. I am so

pleased she is in remission and do hope she goes on improving after

suffering so much.

Please thank Charlie for his prayers - they certainly do help.

A big hug for Shona and Charlie and hope you are not so worried and stressed

now hopefully Shona has turned the corner.

Love

Update on Shona- 12yrs old(13 in april)

Hi Everyone,

Sorry it has taken me so long to update, we have had quite the fill of

trauma in our family as I am sure you all do. Stills does make quite an

impact.

For those of you who have no idea who I am, quick intro. I joined the

group

for my niece in Ireland who was diagnosed with Stills. Shona has been in &

out of hospitals for a long time now. This group has been a God Send for

my

family.

I spoke to my sister-in-law today and got the latest. Shona was diagnosed

in

November with MRSA. She has been on antibiotics since then and still

throws

up every time she eats. Shona has lost 2 stone( 28lbs in UK weight) but

moves

much better.

Good news! Shonas Rheumatoid factor went from 519 to 18. Dr has told her

she

is in remission. They will be testing her every 3 months to check on her.

Shona has been taken off the majority of meds and will be taken off pred

by

summer.

Drs have said now that Shona has had MRSA for a while and that is what

sparked the Stills. We are praying that she stays in remission( Not a

guarantee)

I want to thank all of you for your support and I will be in touch. I read

all the emails and pray for all of you. My son Charlie(5yrs) always ends

his

prayers with " Please God help all of the people with Stills like cousin

Shona "

We never forget our prayers.

Even though I dont send mail always I still read and wish you all well.

Love & Prayers

Marie LI NY

I think there are all kinds of theories...some people seem to take an

antibiotic and it helps and I know many who say it did absolutely nothin !!! My

own

belief...just me now.....is this...a virus or bacteria open up a door for

the genetically pre ordained person to come down with this thing(polite)....I

think genes play a big role as does stress....that's my opinion..Have a nice

day Liz NJ

Thanks Liz for your speedy reply! Is this a bacteria that causes Stills? My son

had a virus before his diagnosis with Stills. The Dr didn't want to give him

antiobiotics to mask the symptoms- I always wonder if she had treated him with

antibiotics straight away whether his illness would have progressed to Stills? I

suppose I will never know!

In December, when my son first got sick, they gave him one antibiotic after

another and he only got worse, not better. Even when they thought it was mono

and hepatitis they gave him antibiotics, which was useless since they are both

viral. Sometimes I think mds think antibiotics are the answer to everything

that they themselves can't figure out.

I know for me, that is exactly what happened. I was very ill in a

foreign country with what we now believe was mono and bronchitis,

which turned into pneumonia. I never got better and ended up being

diagnosed with Stills.
