I agree with your thoughts. I watched one of those shows (not sure which)

a few times. I do not feel it properly covered what " real people "

actually go through.

I've watched it a couple of times and felt some were done for

sensationalism. I so wish that wasn't the case as we really, desperately

need someone to get out there with the true day to day issues and hurdles

all of our children face, so that maybe they would find more acceptance of

their condition. Who knows maybe even more professionals might gain some

insight. I know many regular doctors think OCD is just a lot of hand

washing and checking. In one of the Obsessed episodes that I watched they

made the girl with the cleanliness issues (which many, many of our kids

have) take someone's urine and put it all over the new bed ensemble that

she

had on her bed. Now, I do not suffer from OCD, but I thought that was the

most repulsive, dangerous, ridiculous, over the top thing I have seen, and

your could never, never get me to do that. That kind of ended their

creditability with me. I totally agree with ERP and the great help it

does.

But I truthfully doubt many good therapists would do something like that.

Put your hands in garbage, yes. Roll in mud, yes. Go to the bathroom and

not wash your hands, well maybe, but not have to put someone's urine all

over your bed.

Beth - I totally agree about the urine! I get the whole exposure but there were

somethings on there that anyone would resist, not just someone with OCD. I think

I mentioned that I met one of the woman from the show. It was very interesting

to be able to talk to her. I also ran into dr. Tolin from the show at the

conference this summer. He also happens to be from Connecticut where I am from.

Small world!
