Guest guest
With AOSD (Adult Onset Stills Disease) we may at one time or another need something biopsied to form a better treatment plan. Skin may be one area to be tested to understand what type of rash is going on. It may or may not be part of diagnosing your disease. Many here have had a skin biopsy and for those of you who haven't, here some information on the topic. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003840.htm This link tells about the types of biopsy on the skin. Basically, there are 3 types: Shave, Punch and Excisional by scalpel or scissors. This link tells you how and why each are performed or needed and how to prepare a child for one based on their age from birth to 18 years http://www.medicinenet.com/skin_biopsy/article.htm This link has pictures in color and very detailed to help you understand what skin is. There is also a skin health center on this web site http://www.medicinenet.com/skin_biopsy/index.htm locate at this URL link. At the top of the page on this link there are other links to articles and information about skin biopsies. Use the ones you need or are interested in. There is a " Search " bar at the top of this resource to type in other information needed and tabs to help you find what you want to research. I like this site too. http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/ency/skin_biopsy.jsp This link is beneficial because it gives precautions to take like the need to stop blood thinners before the procedure (discuss this with your doctor) and Key Terms defined. Terms like malignant, benign, dermititis and so forth. For me, knowlege is power and power takes away fear. My hope is that the new EDU program helps you be in informed patient who actively participates in his / her health care. It means you will understand and work with your doctor to help you get better. It enables you to ask informed questions, make informed decisions and protect your own health. You need to know what you take, how it works, why you need it and any dangers to be aware of. I personally know I need antibiotic protection before any procedure but sometimes my doctor forgets. In such cases, being your own advocate helps everyone. May you have enough happiness to make you kind, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy. --------------------------------- Yahoo!
