Guest guest
Dear Wilma, Thanks for your email. It is so hard to know what is the cause of the things your daughter is saying. It could be OCD, but I have seen similar behavior in kids with ADHD-- not filtering, being impulsive, and even kids on the autistic spectrum. The point is that more information needs to be gathered to help you know how best to respond. Can I suggest that you run it by her therapist if you have one, or get a consult with a child psychologist so that they can help you get the source on these. I am sure it is distressing to you, but I'm sure that when a clear diagnosis is made, that you will be able to make great headway with your daughter. All best, TC > > Hello Dr. Chansky, > My daughter said to me that sometimes she wants to burn herself on the toaster. I was thinking its part of her sensory processing problems, or OCD. > > Also, she is very agitated all day long and constantly says " I am fat " or she looks at me and sceams " your fat, go on a diet " she also tries to scratch moles off of her body because they look really big too her. > > Neither of us is fat, and her moles are really small. She is gorgeous. Do you think this is OCDish? Thanks so much for any advice you have > Wilma >
