Guest guest
Hi all, SO I was having my last official visit with Sammy today, as he is coming home at noon tomorrow. The first part went well when we part outside playing and visiting on the bench. We went inside and were reading together (boy is his reading improving BTW), enjoying taking turns reading Superfudge. Then out of the blue, as he was relaxing, leaning against me, with his head on my legs and I was reading aloud, he STARTING LICKING MY TOES! AHHHHHHH! Okay... so I I stopped reading briefly, looked at him and said calmly, " Sam, stop doing that, I don't like that. " He says, " okay, Mom, sorry I couldn't help it. " (very calmly without a trace of silliness). Then I continue reading and within thirty seconds he DOES IT AGAIN! And without thinking about the possibility that it could have been a tic at the time, assuming he was being weird or something, I stopped reading, and said I was going to take some space... big mistake because of course he tried to block the door!!!! What else would MY son do? Then I stood there calmly and said, " Sam you ARE NOT in trouble, I am just going to let the staff know what happened and that I am ready to go now. " He then moved slightly so I could leave the room, followed me to where Jen, the staff member was in the office and listened while I told her what happened. I was calm, and told her I didn't know WHY he did it, and neither did he, but that I was going to get ready to go... I asked him for a hug, he hugged me and also licked my neck as I pulled away, then apologized immediately and asked, " Mom, am I still going home tomorrow? " Of course I said yes. I talked with the staff a few minutes ago and she said he told her he was trying to be silly, and then got mad when I stopped reading because he really didn't mean to upset me. It felt similar to the poking tic he used to have, when he would repeatedly poke me or others and then immediately realize it... but this is new... I didn't realize it right away or I might have reacted differently... but LICKING IS GROSS!!!!! What if he starts licking kids at school or something? I am probably overreacting but it was a shock and I know even though I was calm I didn't react the way I wish I could have because it didn't occur to me that it could have been a tic at the time... What can I do? Heidi
