Guest guest
My 12-year-old daughter started school on Monday. She's at a new school this year and the first three days went very well overall. Typically she is very very quiet and she doesn't have many friends, but she says there's 2 girls she's been talking to and that seems like a small miracle to me! On the other hand, she's complaining about stomach aches and it seems like almost every word coming out of her mouth this evening was an OCD thought (mostly contamination fears). Plus, she says she's picking her head at school (to the extent that there is some bleeding) and she admits that she hasn't spoken to any of her teachers yet. She should have received a planner that all the other kids have and she is afraid to ask the teacher about it. (She wanted me to buy her one, but I told her she needs to get the one she should have gotten at school.) I guess it's all par for the course... but it just strikes me how much extra stuff we parents of ocd-ers sometimes have to deal with, on top of all the other normal stresses (and joys) of starting school. It can be exhausting and overwhelming! Do others find that the start of school can bring out a lot of ocd symptoms? Sue Hope
