Guest guest
Hi, . Glad to read your intro. I feel the same way as you do about the stewardship of the Earth and keeping it beautiful and clean for the future children on the planet. When I look out side my kitchen window as I prepare a meal, I wonder at the beauty of our fragrant, lush spring. I thank God for making it so wonderful. As I go out to do chores, I hear the sweet song of birds. I listen to the comforting sound of our chickens clucking and the cows softly calling to the spring calves. It is thrilling to hear and feel the percussion of gentle horses running through the pasture. All this finds me grateful to be alive. Welcome. Guest guest
Oh my ... your son sounds identical to mine! My son switched last year to a small high school (150 per grade) and has an amazing counselor. He also has amazing teachers. He has the option to retake any test and to redo any assignment/paper. He has an open pass to see his counselor at any time -- or just to go to her office and sit by himself if he needs a break. At this smaller school, I have found the teachers to go above and beyond ... probably because they are not so overwhelmed with the number of students. He is thriving and his stress level is so much better. I have no real advice for you, but wanted to say hello and welcome. in WA Subject: Intro to group To: Date: Thursday, January 27, 2011, 11:31 PM  Hi there. I'm new to the group. My son is almost 11, has been diagnosed with OCD since he was 9. He was diagnosed with generalized anxiety when he was 4. He also developed separation anxiety last summer. He was placed on zoloft on age 10 b/c the anxiety and obsessions were triggering depression. He also has some secondary problems, with inattention. We are currently screening for a new CBT therapist. His OCD and depression are often triggered by the stress of school. I conference quite a bit with school staff, but it always takes awhile for teachers to understand how to best help him. Plus, state testing and ongoing school demands tend to overwhelm him, even with supports. He will be attending a smaller school in the Fall. His rituals are not overwhelming. His major problem is obsessions. He's constantly thinking and overanalyzing. His stamina is low at times b/c his anxiety runs him ragged, which leaves him unable to complete some school tasks. Lately, he's been troubled by the thought that maybe he CAN complete his work and is possibly just making excuses. This obsession has been overwhelming him and driving him to tears. We try to talk it through with some of the basic CBT techniques that he's learned in therapy, but he needs more work. This is why he ends up becoming depressed. We just increased his zoloft dosage. I've read quite a bit about OCD and anxiety over the years, but right now my son needs a systematic approach with clearly structured and prioritized goals from a therapist. I'm not sure what I can do for him in the meantime. I meet with a new therapist next week for intake. It's difficult finding someone qualified who takes our insurance and is within reasonable travel distance. I'm concerned that my son could be nearing a crisis point if something doesn't let up soon. Guest guest
Yep, my son has a long history of shut down. He has a behavior plan to address this, but a lot depends on interpretation and finesse from the teacher. HW was taking too long, so I sent a note after New Year that we were modifying and cutting back as needed. How has the school been about getting the accomodations? Our school tries to work with us, but they don't understand anxiety well enough and I often feel like I'm working against the tide. I got to the point this year where enough was enough and I was no longer asking for accomodations, I was informing and implementing. Fay > > > P.S.
