Bonnie,

My heart went out to you reading your post. Akathisia is very real. My

father went into a deep depression 4 years ago after receiving the news

that he had (very treatable) prostate cancer. One of the meds they put

him on was Seraquel and even though he had all of the akathisia

symptoms, kept upping the dose. He literally was going crazy and had no

relief. At age 64, in the midst of this treatment, he took his own life.

I'm not saying this to scare anyone, but I didn't put all of the

symptoms together until after he died and someone on this list explained

it. His psych said it wasn't that because he would have involuntary

muscle twitches, which he did not. I have found this list to be

invaluable because Drs. do not know everything.

Good for you for recognizing that he was getting worse, not better, and

listening to him. It's difficult to know what to do. On the opposite

end of the spectrum, my DD, when put on Prozac, had a HUGE increase in

anxiety for about 6 weeks and then it miraculously melted away all her

OCD thoughts. She is still on it 8 years later. It's do hard to know

when to " stick it out " and when to make a change. I wish these meds

came with specific tests you could do!

Take care,

Dina

Thanks for your post. I'm so sorry about your dad. I have seen that suffering

and it is almost comprehensible how ending your life seems to be the only

answer. Suicide is often in my thoughts about my son getting older - it's what

drives me to keep looking for answers. I won't give up. Until then, I am trying

really hard to be his anchor and provide him with hope. The sad thing is that

he thinks no one cares else they would help him. That breaks my heart, but I

also don't want him to know that we're stumped and running out of answers just

now. I hope the summer will be relaxing for him and that we can have some good

times before life gets stressful again.
