Guest guest
Tuesday December 18, 2007 Hello, Greetings & Salutations to you! This is Tara Kimberley Torme here emailing you my annual Christmas letter for 2007. This past year has been quite a busy one for me with some life changing events. To sum it up my year was somewhat lively with lots of activity. From January 2007-August 2007 the bulk of my time went to looking for full time work. I went through two job placement agencies – mainly because the job coach at my original job placement agency was not really doing anything to help me to find work except to look for continuous volunteer work in some small company with no prospects of full time employment. It was a very frustrating experience for me – waiting for a phone call from my job coach for a possibility of getting paid work at a publishing company. In the meantime, I did do some work experience at a very small publishing company called Arsenal Pulp Press – I was there for a couple of months. The work was quite enjoyable but they were never going to hire people, mainly because there are only 5 employees there – no room for growth. Finally, after months of searching online through Craigslist I finally found a really good paid position. I was hired at a company called Constructive Media (www.constructive-media.com) with the title of Content Data Analyst. I started here on September 5, 2007 and my contract currently goes until February 29, 2008. The pay is really good: $15/hr and I’m happy here at my work. My psychiatrist that I’ve been seeing since 2001 no longer worked for me. In January 2007 I quit seeing him – tired of being told I could not be treated unless I was back on the anti-depressants (which I had quit taking in Dec. 2006). I was also tired of being told I would not be able to hold a job or be out on my own. So, I went and found myself 2 counselors instead – both whom I’ve been seeing since February/March 2007 on a weekly/bi-monthly (every two weeks) basis. It has been working out great with both counselors and I am happy to continue going to both places. I have been part of an organization since Sept. 2006 called The Vancouver Guild of Embroiderers. Here, on a monthly basis (except for when I started my work) I would go to the meetings and meet with fellow needleworkers. Through the Guild I was able to go on their yearly trip to , BC on June 26, 2007 and have a lovely lunch in the Parliament Building. I’ve also been taking a correspondence course through the Guild – a beginner crewel embroidery course of which I’m still at lesson 3 (I should be finished but am not). On top of that I’ve been embroidering and stuffing all by hand 1000+ butterfly ornaments – so that I could share them with other people. On top of my ornaments project I have also crocheted myself my very own scarf – my first one ever – having never crocheted a thing before this year. I have also undertaken another crochet project this year – an afghan quilt that I’m making just for myself. I’m using yarn that I’ve found cheap at the local thrift store and so far my squares are coming along nicely. Other projects to come: a vest that I plan to crochet myself and a replica of the baby blanket that my Grandmaman made for me when I was a baby – only using soft pink instead of yellow. This year I also volunteered at WOTS (Word On The Street) festival and VIFF (Vancouver International Film Festival). Lots of fun at VIFF but I did not see as many as last year when I met Polley as I came down with a flu bug over the Thanksgiving weekend and I also had work during the day time as well. One major accomplishment/achievement this year was the publication of my book of poetry called “A Series Of Short Stories & Poems” By T K Torme which is available for purchase at www.tktorme.com and at www.amazon.com. This is one of my proudest moments for 2007 and having people purchase my work to support me would be greatly appreciated. I’ve been working on my book since I was a child and now I am proud to be an official published author. Starting again in 2008 I will be re-starting my group for people with Asperger Syndrome called A.S.S. – Asperger Social & Support – an informal coffee meet for adults with Asperger Syndrome meeting only once a month on a Saturday Afternoon. In January 2007 I joined a really good organization for women called Dress For Success – through them I have gotten some wonderful articles of clothing for free – just for coming to their monthly meetings. When the group ends in June 2008 I will be joining their alumni group so I can go to their monthly meetings. I have put out an ad for a walking buddy for 2008 and now I have a few potential people for next year. I look forward to new friendships with those individuals and hopes to lose my extra weight I’ve been carrying. My wonderful documentary on Asperger Syndrome “The Silent Meow” that I wrote, directed, produced & starred in was finally put onto youtube this year. I have provided you the link so that you are able to watch it and tell as many people as possible about it: If you have never read the Vancouver Sun Article that I was featured (The Asperger’s Difference) I have also provided you the link so you may read it at your own perusal: http://www.aspires-relationships.com/writings_tara__Torme.htm What are my hopes, dreams and goals for 2008? They would have to include real estate, marriage, financial stability, investments into RRSP, travel. Tell me how you have been doing for 2007. How have you, your mother, father, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, grandmother, grandfather, niece, nephew, son, daughter been doing? What are your plans for 2008? I would really love to hear from you and get an updated snail mail address so that I don’t mail you out stuff at the wrong house. I’m including hear my current address and phone number so that you are able to send me snail mail throughout the year.
