Guest guest
Hey all, I hope I'm not starting a major flame war here, but I just had a thought & am curious what everyone thinks, esp those on spectrum. I know some people feel hysterectomy is the only choice because of significant issues with lack of toileting, etc. I know others of us feel this is not a choice but still have concerns with birth control. I remember hearing something about a new procedure where rings can be placed around the uterine tubes (fallopian tubes) as sort of like a non-permanent birth control method. Got me thinking about it for our girls. I know for me (and I'm not telling anyone else they're wrong, just my personal situation/feelings for Allie) I feel that procreation is Allie's choice to make one day. However, birth control will probably become more of an issue as she gets older and might have intercourse before she should. Seems like the rings might be a good choice because of no hormonal side effects and the ability to reverse. Any thoughts? Debi
Guest guest
I'd worry about the surgery in someone who scars easily *looks at HUGE 5 inch keloid on ankle* but I think it's WITHOUT A DOUBT a better alternative to hysterectomy, and probably better than birth control. Birth control messes with moods and bone density and such. It'd be worth looking into, especially as its non permanant, and taking away the choice of giving life doesnt seem fair to me. I may be opting away from having my own kids in favor of adopting when the time is right b/c of MY inheritable weirdnesses (not the autism so much, other stuff) but I sure wouldnt want someone irrevocably making that decision for me. Especially not when I was a child. (besides, oh heavens how I scar...this sounds laparaoscopic...) Good topic, Debi! thought provoking. Guest guest
I think that we all should be very careful in weighing the options before we as parents even think of going to sterilization :C I hate that word sterilization. I am going to be goin the avenue of depoprovera for my daughter for her periods. Proper care of herself etc... she will be unable to care for herself and the school where she is at wouldnt be able to help her at all. I am praying that we dont have any type of increase of behaviors with this medication, but as with all meds that I have been dealing with with both my daughter no one knows how they will respond to them. I have close to a year and a half before all this starts but it is a hard decisoin to make. I think that Kassie is doing wonderful with her choices in life I hope one day that both my girls are so very capable of caring for themselves as you are Kassie. I think the idea of the ring sounds like a good thing as well. Glad there are so many parents that dont automatically say oh we cant do anything but sterilize I know there are some that do and that is there choice but with all the side effects and other health issuse that go along with sterilization it would scare me even to go there. Any how good thoughts both of you. Thanks for letting me blab

Guest guest
I too am glad to hear that many parents do not wish to go the rout of sterilization. I know I still have a little while left, but my oldest is 6 now and I started my menses at age 8 so I know that the whole period junk is not too far off. I still do not have my daughter potty trained, so the thought of her period is very frightening, but I refuse to use any form of birth control on her. Not because I am against planned births or anything like that, but strictly due to the damaging effects that the modern birth control can give anyone, let alone those with sensitive immune systems. Please consider reading the article at the following website: http://www.spiritofhealing.com/articles/html/menopause.htm I am only 27 years old as of last month and yet I am already going through menapause. I firmly believe that birth control is a huge part of why and the fact that I too have a sensative and damaged immune system and body. Please, before you make a choice like this for your child, read the article I linked and at least try to research and look into what it is saying. You will find a wealth of information. My doctors are still trying to help me get my period back and there is a lot of damage that can happen to the rest of your organs and system when one thing is messed up and out of sync. I am sorry I don't have more time to write and explain more right now, but wanted you to know this much. Sincerely, Esther --- agirls2003 wrote: > I think that we all should be very careful in > weighing the options > before we as parents even think of going to > sterilization :C I hate > that word sterilization. Guest guest
we are looking at a new form of IUD for my oldest daughter since she already became of a mom at a teen age years. we are thinking this is of the best option as it protects her for 5 years unless she herself wants of it removed to have another baby in her future. I to forget the name of it but it is much a safer option for her because we too not want of her to have of too much hormone, and or to do anythings permanent as she often things of maybe someday in her life to have another baby but not now. Delaney is of already to keep of her much busy. Sondra

Guest guest
I to forgot to be to add that for me could nver to take of the pills because even with the first dose of them within 24 hours will begin excessive vomotting and shakey feelings and it will last until the poison to me is of out and thenfor many days after wards carry the nausea. Later in life they tried of the patch. it caused me great moods of sad, it too if it was placed any where besides of my tummy would cause the same reaction as the pills. so for me hormone based things makes of me very ill and cant funciton on them. but the monthlies of me can cuase so much other issues they were of trying to calm me in them but it did not work for me. My missy is on a low dose of the pill things to help calm of hers as she was having monthlies that last 10 or more days and then would return again about 10 days later. she was having them 2 x per month. too much for a young girl on spectrum to cope with. so we had to help of her. sondra

Guest guest
It's called Mirena. I know a lot of women who use it and have been very happy with it, but it's only prescribed to women who have already had one baby. So it would be perfect for Aimee, but probably not for most of the other girls on this list.
