Traditional conversational therapy

I wrote to the group a month or so ago about my 15-year-old daughter. She had

low-level OCD for three or four years. Feelings of contamination from school

lead to increasingly long showers. She stopped going to school fours months ago

following a seven-hour shower.

Around the same time we started to get help with ERP and medication. However,

she and the therapist (someone who has many years of experience working with

teenagers with OCD) didn't seem to hit it off. My daughter felt that the

therapist didn't really listen to her and just wanted to use The Method

regardless. The therapist felt my daughter wasn't motivated enough for the

therapy to work.

So, we have decided to take time-out, and have arranged to meet a colleague

of therapist 1 after the summer.

Meanwhile we cannot just relax and enjoy the good weather and have started

looking around for other types of treatment. We have found a therapist who is

qualified as a traditional conversational therapist, but who also has training

in CBT. Our hope is that when our daughter feels listened to (and perhaps gains

some insight along the way) that she will then be more prepared to give CBT/ERP

a chance.

Does anyone have any experience of more traditional conversational therapy?
