Guest guest
Hello, I have been reading Dr. Natasha McBride's book Gut and Psychology Syndrome and found Rei's post about antibiotics improving her son's diet very interesting. Dr. McBride's theory on how digestive health affects the brain is based on unhealthy gut flora. Our gut friendly bacteria is overrun by pathogenic bacteria and yeast which damage intestinal health leading to a leaky gut and then the toxins from the bacteria affect our brains and other organs. She was working as a neurologist when her son was diagnosed with severe autism, she began treating his digestive symptoms by following and modifying Elaine Gottschalls Specific Carbohydrate Diet. She also pursued a PhD in nutrition during this time and her son responded to the diet and has been symptom free leading a normal teenage life. This is not just an autism diet and she includes OCD as one of the illnesses arising from these unhealthy gut bacteria. Genetic makeup is the predisposition while the bacteria are the triggering factors. Just thought I would share this info if anyone is interested in pursuing further this topic. Deb daspredemann@...
