Guest guest
, Can you get the school district to do a neuropsych eval with the doctor's support? It might not be as good as an independent one, but it may still give you some guidance and perhaps support some need for services at school, which I seem to recall the school has claimed are not needed (at least in the past). Guest guest
Hi , My son has been on tenex for about a year now.The only thing I can say it has helped with was the tics, and the sleeping at first. Now it doesn't help with that anymore, so we are weaning him off it now. Just remember each kid is different. Hugs Judy ________________________________ To: Sent: Wed, June 9, 2010 9:05:36 PM Subject: Tennex-anyone?  Had our psych apt today. Good apt-the doc is not getting rid of the oCD but really sees the PDD-NOS is very strong, BUT he wants an eval from a neuropsychologist done and insurance doesn't pay and I cannot pay so.. He added tennex and is reducing the risperdal to .25 due to my son having tongue movements ( but he had these before the med and they appear sporadically but he wants to be safe). So my 7 year old will be on 4 meds. Zolft 50mg, .25 risperdal, not sure the dose on the tennex (have to get it filled) and Meletonin if needed. Just wondered about this med. I know it is a blood pressure med and that's about it (and that it is supposed to help with the fight/flight response). Michele
Guest guest
We have used the Tenex for motor and vocal 'tics' - the tics come and go, change body parts, get worse, get better. My son just turned 12 and a year ago we let him have some control over his treatment. He HATES taking meds so we let him choose to either live with the tics or take the tenex. He chose to ditch the pill. It worked well. We used it at night to take advantage of the sleepy side effects. We never needed the Melatonin with the tenex. Without the tenex we have to use the Melatonin. But I have to say that we had no problems with the Tenex and do keep it on hand just in case the tics go into overdrive. > > Had our psych apt today. Guest guest
My 8 yr old Aspergers and ADHD son has been on tenex for a year. We gave it 3 times a day 1 mg each session. We just switched to intuitiv from the tenex which is the extended version of tenex. His tics are almost gone on the tenex. The impulse was still a problem so we are hoping the intuitiv helps with that. He falls asleep with no problems. We also give risperdal for the meltdowns/overreactions and prozac for the obsession/fixations. Right now he is doing better. His latest focus was on inappropriate private talk and gestures and that is a scary one. Also he is hyperfocused on getting things which is a problem. > > > > Had our psych apt today. Guest guest
So it seems as though this is for tics mainly? he doesn't have those so I don't know why I am going to give him this. His problems are his anger/rages and his obsessions. The doc said it would calm his anxiety but I haven't heard much of that ( I looked online too). > > > > > > Had our psych apt today. Guest guest
I would ask a pharmacist, maybe even more than 1, to see what they think about it. It may help with other things than you have heard about. Stormy Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry® Re: Tennex-anyone? Guest guest
Hope this helps... Tenex belongs to the general class of medicines called antihypertensives. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) but that may also be helpful in reducing ADHD symptoms. Like another antihypertensive drug, Catapres etc. (Clonidine), Tenex regulates levels of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine and may be effective in reducing ADHD symptoms alone or in combination with stimulants. They also may be used as an alternative to stimulant medication, especially in the 30% of children who cannot tolerate stimulants and in children with conduct problems. However, antihypertensives may not improve attention deficit or distractibility. Tenex may also reduce symptoms of aggression and reduce the insomnia associated with stimulants.
