Guest guest
I do not, Allie appeared to, though. She would just sorta look off in space, we'd say her name, no response, we'd touch her, not always a response, but usually within a few seconds, she'd be back. When we put her on the gluten-free, casein-free diet those episodes went away, we've not seen them since she's started back on gluten, so that's all good. Debi > > Do you have Absence Seizures? How did you get it diagnosed? What did it look like when Allie was having the seizures? Thanks so much, Gwen
Guest guest
Debi- May I ask why you put her back on gluten. We are on the diet and I have wondered if it is going to be a life long thing. Thanks, Rebekah --- Debi wrote: > I do not, Allie appeared to, though. Guest guest
A few reasons. After 2 yrs her eating was so restrictive some of our team began to suggest a feeding tube. She was not growing. One day I caught her eating some bread. I watched her for the usual signs, the reddened face, etc. Nothing seemed to happen. We decided to give her lots of enzymes every time she ate & allow her to eat " regular " food again. After a month or so I asked her team if they had noticed any regressions. They had nothing but good reports. We have continued to allow her to eat it, but have gotten out of giving her enzymes. I just did an IgG test a couple months ago (after about 3 1/2 yrs off diet) that showed mild IgG to wheat, milk, as well as eggs, with higher elevations in other areas, so I'm trying to get her off as much as possible without freaking out her food defensiveness. She's finally at age 8 to the point of being willing to try some new things every now & then, I don't wanna push her back to chips/fries for six months like before. So, pretty much we stopped the diet to see what would happen in hopes of getting her eating again. One note, she did eat Mc's fries during the time of gfcf. At that time we were all guaranteed by McD that their fries were safe. They've come out in the last couple of years to admit I think the oil had some gluten products in it, so though I thought we were being compliant there's that. I do wonder if the oil at such high temps probably destroyed/altered most of the gluten in it, but there's no way to know. If you cook most proteins at higher temps the protein does denature, I would think it would do the same to any protein in oil for long enough. Guest guest
Rochelle It is hard when you believe they are having them, yet the tests show they aren't? A lady I know has a son that they believe has seizures but his EEGs are normal, but they still treat him because of his symptoms? Thanks for your input, Gwen Re: How to detect autism Yep, I had an normal EEG and I have seizures. Allie had a normal EEG during a time we thought she was having absence seizures. Guest guest
Thanks, that is good info to know. I have been thinking about hidden gluten. I wish there was a mass list out there! Guest guest
Yep, I've found since going off my med that if I'm exceptionally stressed, I feel auras; at that point, I usually try to go lay down, it seems just a 10 minute doze can sort of reset it all. Guest guest
Some of the boards dedicated to gfcf are a wealth of knowledge about hidden sources. www.gfcfdiet.com used to be really good, I just typed it in, looks different from a few yrs ago, don't know if it's still as good for listings. Would be nice if there were a " Feingold Assoc " equivalent for gfcf, maybe there is & I don't know it. HTH, Debi > > Thanks, that is good info to know. I have been > thinking about hidden gluten.
