Gail,

When it rains it pours for you. I hope your son is able to find the

help he needs to get this taken care of properly. Definitely will be

thinking of him and sending mega good thoughts the way of your family.

Dear Gail

What can I say, you are certainly having more than your share of suffering

at the moment and now your son has his health worries. I am so sorry I just

admire how you are coping. I hope your son gets the treatment he needs.

Thinking of you

Joan U.K.

Subject: my son

I know you guys are probably tired of hearing of my woes, but I mentioned in

a prior email that my 19 yr old son was having health problems and we were

seeing the doc this morning.

He has a 2 cm mass located behind his heart. They said it appears benign in

nature, but of course cannot confirm that without surgery. He has no

insurance and can't get state help. He is being seen at the free clinic and

they are covering his tests but he needs a specialist now. Also, his liver

enzymes are up and his stomach is causing him problems. His blood pressure

was 159/90 so he is now on BP meds.

So.... now I am taking a deep breath again to prepare myself for what is up

ahead. This past week was so miserable, that all I can do is move on and

keep going, and I will. You know how Mom's are, when it comes to the kids,

we are stronger than iron. Even though I am flaring terribly, he needs me

and I will be there.

My hubby is on his way back from Michigan where he went to the NASCAR race

yesterday and I will be so glad to hug his neck after the week I have been

through! Seems we are all dealing with a lot of stress lately. I am praying

for calmer waters soon.

For right now, as my girlfriend used to say, " Grow your toenails long and

hang on! "

Gail, I am so sorry to hear about your troubles.About your son, have you tried

contacting St.Judes hospital in Memphis?I am pretty sure they will take any

child,I know he is a man,but he would be considered a child until he is

21.St.Judes doesn't turn anyone away,insurance or not.They also have a

Mc house for the family to stay in during their childs hospital

stay. Please try contacting them and see if they can help.

Hi Carolyn, we've had several members (more than several!) whose kids have

violent thoughts.

One that comes to mind is where the daughter would think about stabbing her

mother. Therapy for this consisted of, well for her at first was just being in

the room with a knife, working up from there. And eventually the knife in hand

and her mom standing there; and making a motion towards her mom with knife, to

touching mom with knife. (yep, real fun for mom!) All this took a

looonnnngggg time to get up to, doing the exposures in steps and being ready to

proceed to the next level of exposure.

So for you, depending on where the steps would start, it would end with him

putting his hands on your neck. And not getting anxiety/fear and being

comfortable with that, realizing he wouldn't *actually* do that.

I can see his saying he thinks the thoughts would go away after he actually

choked you. But in actuality, he'd still have thoughts of choking others, the

cat.... HMMM...that sort of sounds bad, LOL, he wouldn't REALLY choke you.

What I mean to say is once he gets past exposures and the anxiety, the thoughts

of choking others/cat/you will probably all stop OR he will just brush them

aside as an OCD thought, won't obsess over them, be less frequent....

I'm rambling!

doing something violent to me. I am also the go to confessional person. I asked

him the other day what he felt would happen if he did choke me and he said he

thought the thoughts would go away after that. Has anyone dealt with this type

of answer before?? Scares the you know what out of me sometimes that I worry

that he will one day act on it.

Yup, I have been threatened with feeling like stabbing your or wanting to cut

off my breasts. I think after a while I have learned to be as calm as possible.

I have also kept a log of when he has said these thoughts and what he has said.

I did give some common sense thought to desensitizing to a knife since he

doesn't like being around them. I was going to ask his pedi psych about this.

Not sure how I would want to address the whole choking issue. He has briefly put

his hand on my neck before last year and it really freaked us both out since it

was out of the blue and very impulsive.

Thank you for your comments and you aren't rambling...lol

Hi Carolyn,

My 8 yr old son says things like this almost daily.I am the " confessional "

person as well. He will always whisper things to me.Sometimes he'll say things

like " My ocd is telling me to stab you with that knife " " Am I going to? " " What do

I do? "    When he says these things he is in a state of panic and will cry for

me

to help him. I just ask him if he wants to do these things ( which he says he

doesn't ) and that it's ocd talking ,and I tell him he has to use one of his

" tools " than he'll start in apologizing because he had the thought. It is a

vicious cycle!!

I used to be afraid my son would act on his thoughts in the past, but so far I'm

still here- lol!

Keep us posted and hang in there!

Hugs

judy
