Hi Noel, this is !

Is Duke Univ. too far away for you to take her to? I know we had a hard time

finding a therapist, gave up for a long while.

Regarding DAN, I guess you've looked at the online lists and not found anyone?

http://www.autism.com/pro_danlists_us.asp

I know there's some here who do diets or have determined some foods or dyes that

child was " allergic " to and benefitted when those were stopped. You might

search back through the groups archived posts to see what turns up.

What medication is your child on, dosage?

I think we just had some recent discussions where parent had to answer their

child in that " right way " or else!

Sorry you're going through aggressive outbursts! Did your daughter participate

in therapy well, try any Exposures or " bossing back " ?

Thanks, Chris.

Yes, Duke Univ is a good location for us.

I expect they have a number of therapists. Any recommendations?

Re: DAN docs, I found Pittman in Raleigh, NC (closer) and Anne Hines in

Winston Salem, NC (further, but okay).

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with either of these.

I've spoken with Dr. Hines and will call Dr. Pittman Monday.

I'm also wondering if anyone has had success with any DAN docs since I think OCD

is on the Spectrum.

Rx is fluoxetine -- 22 mg -- for my 10 yr old who weighs 70 - 75 lbs.

Her current therapist doesn't do exposures, though I've asked her about them.

She's great at what she does do, but I think there are other things that would

be helpful as well, including exposures. So it may be a good time to find

someone new, while continuing to see the current one. The current therapist

primarily works with her on switching things up, changing the compulsions,

making comprimises, which I think qualifies as " bossing back " . She also tries

to help her see her oppositional and need for the " right answer " tendencies as

her OCD rather than her nature, which I like.

When searching the archives I didn't find what I was looking for, but it's so

hard to come up with just the right key words with yahoo groups I find. I'll

spend some more time with it though.

Hi Noel, yeah the " search " feature can be tricky. And sometimes it just gives a

" busy " note and you have to keep trying. Yahoo is also working on the search

feature apparently. Don't know what you have tried but some should turn up with

words like - dye, allergy, allergic, alternative, diet.

The only thing *I* know about Duke is their website info, but some parents here

have actually been and perhaps can inform you of the process, any therapists.

http://www2.mc.duke.edu/pcaad/pcaad_staff.htm

Changing compulsions, etc., as you mentioned, yes that is " bossing back, " a way

to mess up OCD.

I see DAN doctors mentioned more in autism/Aspergers groups. I belong to some

since has Aspergers too. I haven't looked but Yahoo could have a group

just about DAN to join.

thanks for the link to Duke -- I'll explore and make contact.

BJ, thanks for sharing your similar situation -- I suspect ERP will be very

useful, so will look for someone who will help us with that. And will check

into Dr. Wagner.

Do you have any specific info about her that you can share?

She's accessible, but not as convenient as I'd like. I'm gonna contact the Duke

therapists as well due to location and connection with March, the director

there.

Re: Inositol -- We did try with with my older child, who also has OCD, but much

milder. Did not see any results.

Since there are soooooooo many things we could try, supplement-wise, I really

feel like a need a guide -- a guru -- someone to maybe do some labs.... so

that's what makes me think of a DAN doctor.

Was hoping to hear from others who've used DAN doctors in relation to OCD.

Maybe I'll post that as a seperate question.

Thanks very much for your time and good advice!

worked very well back then -- such as 3 min. exactly of seperation as many times

as it took. Eventually things calmed down.

need for us to answer exactly as her OCD wanted us to, which was impossible and

led to family tension that was through the roof. Her OCD primarily manifests as

tense agression toward her family -- but also grandparents if they spend enough

time with her. I know she feels very lonely in this situation.

reading here that Exposure Response therapy is important. I was planning to

look for someone trained in March's protocol (he's from Duke University and

wrote Talking Back To OCD).

Noel, we have had members who got bloodwork done (for other than PANDAS). I

can't think of the names of the places they used, maybe someone will see this

and comment. One might have had the word " laboratory " in it.... And why am I

thinking " mountain " too.... (for searching thru the archives)

Wow!

I had no idea!

Thanks for letting me know about her background.

I would have thought the west coast would be a great place to find help. Very

glad you did eventually find what works well for your family. That must be a

huge relief.

We used dr pat gammon at PCAAD at duke. Loved her. I have a lot of friends that

used a Dan doc, to good success, especially if allergies or gut issues involved.

Those with pandas, Lyme etc have found more success with neurology, immunology

or llmd.

Thank you -- good to know of someone in particular at Duke that I can start

with.

Duke may be the closest location for us.

Regarding allergies vs GI issues vs. PANDAS vs. Lyme, I guess we need to somehow

try to figure out how to start.

My daughter recently tested positive for gluten intolerance (via Enterolab stool

test) -- going GF has helped with migraines and stomach aches, though she still

gets some migraines.

And dairy makes her cough, so she certainly has some food intolerances.

Don't know about the rest.

Am hoping a DAN doctor or some kind of practitioner can help us figure these

out.
