Hiya Jackie,

Glad you joined us here. There are a whole bunch of really nice

people here who will help, support and offer advice.

I too live in the Penrith area. Would be good to catch up.

I've been banded for just over 3 weeks now. Meeting new bandits is

always great and very helpful.

Hi Jackie and welcome to the group. I have had my band for almost 7

months and lost 25kg so far. I live at Emu Plains so just around the

corner. Hope we can meet on Saturday at the Regatta. Take care,

Hi ,

Welcome to Sydband, you are in fine company down south... some lovely ladies from that part of the world are sure to say hello to you in the next couple of days.

It is usually fairly quiet around here on weekends - come Monday the place is sure to be buzzing.

Good to hear you are on your way.

Welcome and congrats on making the decision to get a band and

no doubt improve your circumstances. Gosh you are on Optiyuk for a

long time leading up to the op. I know it is hard work (since I

failed miserably at this task), but will be a great kick start for

you. We have a few members in the southern area, but if you have any

questions, feel free to ask - we don't give medical advice but can

tell of our own experiences and offer support. This is a wonderful

tool to have, but not always an easy road to follow. After nearly 2

years I still don't have banded life down pat sometimes, and I have my

rough days but I wouldn't trade it for quids.

Keep us posted on how you are doing. Who is your surgeon?

ciao

Hi Bea,

We have limited experience with the GFCF diet. When our youngest dd was about 3

we gave it a try. We were already pretty sure she was allergic to milk anyway.

We started by removing milk first. We didn't expect to see anything for a few

weeks (as it takes time to get it out of your system.) But she began singing in

just a few days. She'd never hummed or sung or anything. (This btw was the

direct opposite of our other daughter on the spectrum. She sang long before she

could ever speak.) Within days of that she began following the first directions

she'd ever followed. It was a dramatic change. We kept her off of milk for

about 2 years. Then we had a slip that led to falling off the diet. We didn't

see any immediate downside so we allowed milk back into her world. Within a few

days we got a note from her teacher telling us she wasn't " herself " . We didn't

really see this at home, but I guess at school she just was hazy. After a few

months we decided to put her back on the diet and a few days later got a note

from the teacher telling us we'd gotten " our old girl " back. She remained off

milk until she was about 6. We started letting her have cheese, etc. She'd

probably still be better off without it, but we don't see a huge difference at

this point.

As far as GF goes, after she'd been CF for a while we started the GF part of the

diet. We didn't go as drastic as removing all appliances that had ever had

gluten on them. But we were pretty strict. After a few months of that we saw

no changes so we gave it up.

During this time we were seeing Dr. Goldberg in Tarzana. His theories about the

immune system seemed to fit our girl. He ran tests and was able to explain why

the GF part of the diet was that important for her, as it is for some. With him

we went through a regiment to deal with yeast overgrowth and immune system

deficiencies. This treatment helped her as much as the CF diet did. We

discontinued treatment with him when we got to a point where we thought he'd

cured as much as could be.

Hope some of this gives you ideas.

Dear :

Thanks for the info. It is obvious that we live in the same area. I

like what you said about Goldberg and how he helped your daughter. My

Grandson also has significant problems with allergies. I do believe

that he has a leaky gut. Now that he has been off of milk and gluten,

he is not taking any medication. But he still has problems. If he

gets a little gluten in him, by accident, he gets a bit strange. He

can't focus, he's clingy and laughs a bit too much. In other words,

he's a good picture of high. It takes him a day to get the gluten our

of his system.

I will have to mention Goldberg to my daughter. We know that we are on

a journey to get the kid better. The advantage of Goldberg is that he

is an MD, and therefore, depending on one's insurance, most of the

diagnotic work should be covered.

Bea

Hi Bea,

Welcome to our group. My daughter is 15 & is still on the diet. If she has

gluten infractions, she gets the opioid effect, either giggly or irritable.

She doesn't seem to crave dairy, so I don't worry about that. She would eat

ice cream if I let her though.

On the side, Jim & I run autism conferences in Pasadena & Anaheim every

year. Our next one is in Anaheim on Feb 10-11-07, probably at the

convention center. If you want, I can put you on our mailing list to get

the brochure or you can always go to www.autism-conferences.com for

conference info.

That's right Bea about the benefits of seeing an MD from the insurance

standpoint. Now, when we were seeing him he was only contracted as a preferred

provider with two companies. The fact that one of them was ours kind of

enforced that this was a path we were supposed to take. Call it an omen or

divine intervention.

February too. I'm always at the registration tables.

I did speak to your husband, Jim, after the " mens forum " . He was so

helpful -- I run a parent/educator support & education group for

Asperger's/HFA in the Inland Empire. He gave me some ideas on how to

educate dads and get them to connect with and participate more with

their kids. One of the things we're going to try is starting a lending

library with videos about Asp/HFA. I think the dads will watch a 1-2hr

video sooner than they'd read a book or go somewhere. Also, a Dads'

Dinner Club -- where dads get together at a local restaurant once a

month. We did start a LEGO Robotics club -- for the techie kids/dads,

it's working great. If you or anyone else has other ideas, I'd love to

hear them.

Welcome, Dawn.

Congrats on your plans. Lots of great info on this listserve, and at www.IMPCenter.org. You might also consider coming to our IMP conference this summer, in Rochester, NY. Great place to learn and interact with others who are at various stages of running an IMP style practice.

> Allow me to introduce myself--My name is Dawn Swanson. I recently

graduated from Residency, although my children are grown. I am

opening up my own primary care office this coming Feb. with another

experienced physician. The office is in Liberty Lake WA about 20

minutes outside of Spokane. Liberty Lake is a upper/middle class

town of about 5,000 people, surrounded by three other 5,000

population towns, Post Falls--50,000 and Spokane about 300,000.

There are no physicians in Liberty Lake and few about 15 to 20

minutes away. Although there are plenty of dentists and

Chiropractors--go figure.
