Guest guest
Greetings The guidelines that you receive when you join the mailing list IS comprehensive, and when they were first written we tried VERY hard to make the list run the way most other lists are run. Somewhere over the last year or so, things have gotten off-track, and the members have forgotten their guidelines. I've wanted to bring this to the members attention, but each time the Board has tried to do this people get very defensive. That of course is not what we want or need, but at the same time the SUBJECT TO line is there for a reason. This helps people to read what interests them, and can cut down on the amount of e-mails that you feel you HAVE to read, in order to keep abreast of things. This IS a safe haven for everyone, but there are rules and while they don't have to be strictly adhered to they should at the very least be part of the NETIQUETTE that has been around since the beginning of the list. Cut and paste the messages so that the list doesn't have reams of e-mails to read through to find the topic that interested them. If your off topic put OT somewhere in the line, or if it is going to be a long e-mail put (long) somewhere in the subject to line. This is just good manners, it has nothing to do with anyone personally, it's just the way the originators wanted things to be handled. . It takes a new member to remind us of what the Board and our founders wanted the mailing list to be . Thank you Beth for giving me an opportunity of addressing this issue. Cat B wrote: I am 43, in England near Birmingham. My name is Beth I am married no kids. Just diagnosed with AOSD. The worst part for me is the unremitting pleuritic pain, for which t)- I havent belonged to a mail group like this before-, but after reading all of the many specific and very clear documents sent to a new member of this list, it seems that those things are not permitted and I am a little confused- as a new member of the list you receive comprehensive guidance and the practices on the list seem to be different than the guidance. I just want to make sure that I dont make an error and offend the list in any way- I'm not sure what the expectations are- so could someone please clarify this? Is it just a case of " we would like it to be this way, but once you are established here it doesn't really matter? " Sorry to sound thick, but it was very confusing to try to make heads or tails of the digest, and it seems the rules would be useful, but in that I havent been on a list like this before I wasnt sure how things really worked and would rather ask than do the wrong thing. Guest guest
Dear Sunil Haridass, Welcome to the group. I look forward to getting to know you. So sorry that you have been so sick with AOSD. This is not a pleasant illness to have. I am not familiar with the area that you are from in Coimbatore, but I am familiar with the northwestern area of India. Mostly in the Punjab region around Chandigar, and the area around Nepal. I think you will find a lot of help and friends here. It is always difficult when you are first diagnosed. It usually takes awhile to get all the medications to begin to take effect. And the doctors will have to find what works best for you. It is different for all of us. I do hope that you do well with this illness and are able to carry on with the things that you enjoy in life. Be prepared for a long battle with this illness. It does not play nicely. There are many here who have been ill for many years but there are some who have been in remission for many years also. That gives me a lot of hope. I hope that it will also help you. I have been very ill with this for 12 years now. I wish you good health Sunil. My best to you and your family. Guest guest
*HI Sunil,* *Wishing you good results from your Dr's visit. It's always interesting to see my Dr. since he is debating if it's Still's or not. One time he'll say it's Still's and the next visit, he claims he isn't convinced. To say the least, this is very frustrating. One good element to this is the medications I'm taking are for treating Still's.* ** *I was introduced to this dragon at a very young age--my Dr. diagnosed me at 12 yrs. but I remember the pain and fevers as young as 3 or 4 years of age. At the time of diagnosing, I was prescribed coated aspirin and nothing else. For one year, I took the aspirin and began to see a slow improvement. At the age of 13, I achieved a remission that lasted around 15 yrs. Then I was achieving remissions that lasted between 1 yr. to 3 yrs. but I did not realising what was going on since it was so mild. I was too busy with life to worry about my sick days since the sick days didn't last more than 24 hrs. However, things changed after the birth of my two sons. After the birth of my last son and 2-1/2 yrs. of breastfeeding, the Dragon woke up and hasn't let up since. This was 3 years ago.* *Faith, love and hope are the foundation of any relationship. Guest guest
Hi , Ya , I have heard my cardiologist say that AOSD is diagonised by elimination therefore we need to be doubly sure that we do not miss anything. Wow ! you have had this since 12 yrs. Thats a long time. Well I am back from my Doc, ESR has come down from 128 to 94 and the Ferretin from 3850 to 818. he says its good, but i need to continue my medication for 3 months. I wonder if there are any side effects for Ibuprofen? Well had 2 good days in Madras with my brother and friends, partied a bit, had 2 /3 drinks more than what the Doc recomended. anway had a good time. Oregon, I have never been to that part of the US. Must plan a visit one of these days. Best wishes to you and your family. Have a great day. Sunil KC wrote: *HI Sunil,* *Wishing you good results from your Dr's visit. Who do you talk to well you got two that you already are and that's good but I did not see you mention a reg doc or a rummy any thing like that .I know this is some thing we can not deal with on our own I tried believe me it takes doctors and some times specialist to help sort it all out. also it is hard finding friends for my self not working as to dam young to hang around the senior centers and well to old were kids are during the day so friend not any thing I have many of at all but life is good see I went from living to die to were I am today I am dieing to live hope some of this may help you I know every one here try's to understand so again welcome Hugs all Marty New member Hello, My name is Burr Strader. I am a new member, well I joined a few weeks ago but have been quiet to see what goes on. I have a very interesting and long story of my JRA Stills onset and repercutions but was not sure if this is where I go ahead and write it. I need help getting though this. I have my family which is very supportive but I feel that I am becoming a burden to them. And I literally have no friends. Maybe I can make some here. My emails are chefburr@... or chefburrstrader@... . Or do I just keep going through this? Who do I talk to? I already see a phsyciatrist and therapist, but how much can they help when they really don't understand what is going on and what my body is putting me through? I hope to hear from somebody. Thank You. Burr " Oh my creator! What is the good of the strongest heart, in a body that is falling apart? A serious Flaw, I hope you know that. Guest guest
Hi Burr, and welcome. Yes, this is where you post your " story. " Please do--you'll be surprised by how many of the group members can relate to what you've been through and are going through. For me, this list is a " sanity check. " Sounds like a silly story, but the other night I was at a board meeting for a local organization (I'm the secretary and editor of the newsletter). I'd missed the last meeting because of a bad flare when I was trying to get off prednisone, and generally I haven't been performing my " duties " very well since I got Still's a year ago. A member of the board said, " Good to have you back. I saw you raking your lawn a few weeks ago, so I assume you're back to normal! " How do I explain to other people, without sounding insane, that on Monday I might rake the lawn, chop wood, swim at the Y, and fold four loads of laundry, but on Tuesday I might not be able to hold a pen in my hand or zipper my own pants? Or that the reason I look so " sunkissed and healthy " is that I've got Still's rash all over my arms, chest, and face? Ah, the perversity of this disease never ceases to thrill me. Anyway, didn't mean to babble. Welcome aboard! in Maine > > Hello, My name is Burr Strader. I am a new member, well I joined a > few weeks ago but have been quiet to see what goes on. Guest guest
Hi and Welcome to our group, Burr: You are doing just fine. This is where we all write. Please write us your story so we can have a better understanding and it's a great way to get to know something about you. I am from Oregon. I have been battling this off and on since early childhood with a diagnosis at 12 yrs. old. I achieved a remission that last close to 15 yrs. with little signs of this dragon working in the background. After the births of my two kids, the madness was unleashed and so far no remission is in sight. It's been active for over 3 yrs. now. I understand your statement about no friends. It's so hard to keep friendships when you are so sick physically and mentally from this DD that you just don't have the energy to keep playing the game of cultivating friendships. One Psychologist has diagnosed me as having antisocial disorders--this is a person who spent 5 mins. with me and who knows nothing about me or what I think or feel. I have found the best friend I have is through a relationship of prayer to my creator. I do not mean to sound preachy or offend anyone by the mention of God. I respect the fact we all have different faiths and views of the higher Power.- And the relationship I share with my husband. He is my best friend in human form. LOL. I feel really blessed to have two great friendships in my life. But outside this, it is difficult to keep friendships going when you are so sick unless one of the friends is someone who shares your experience with Still's. And You have came to the right place to find understanding, caring and friendship. I do find myself withdrawing from people when I am battling this DD inwardly. I guess it's because I know how others don't want to hear about illness or about the battle we fight. So, if this is considered antisocial behavior then I guess I am. LOL. Sorry for the rambling but it may give you some insight on the person I am? Or not. LOL. Again, welcome to the group. You are not friendless anymore. You have all of us. *big grin* , Oregon > > Hello, My name is Burr Strader. I am a new member, well I joined a > few weeks ago but have been quiet to see what goes on. Guest guest
I would be really interested to hear from anyone who had similar issues with cooked milk products, yet successfully tried raw dairy. My daughter developed a severe allergy to industrial dairy as a toddler, but has been happily consuming raw for three years. Tuesday we can get Organic Pastures milk again; the poor child has been milkless for over two weeks and is sorely missing it! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Canfield Christian liberty should never be exercised at the expense of a Christian testimony. ~ Chappell " Be not deceived, God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Guest guest
It is important to find the rules for Alberta itself. In some provinces it is accepted to have cow share, BC, for example. Then go from there. There is a chapter in AB, or at least there used to be, so work with the leader. Debbie ChikouskyManitoba, Canadagdchik@... New Member Hello everyone! Thank you for allowing me access to your group. I am very interested in learning more about raw dairy. I am 48 years old living in Calgary Alberta. Canada has a very strict no raw dairy policy, and I am at a loss how to go about being able to get it. Although I don't really have any health complaints anymore ( I did for a while and switched to organic foods and eating more for my body type ), I would still love to have the benefits that raw milk seems to provide. I would love to find a source near here for my 10 month old granddaughter - we do get her organic milk but apparently that's just as bad as the normal stuff. I joined the Weston Price Foundation recently and they have great information, but nothing for us poor Canadians. I also subscribe to mercola.com, another wonderful site for good health tips. Is there such a thing as powdered raw milk? And would that still be illegal in Canada? I am hoping there are some people within this group who would know more about this, I would be so happy to hear from you! My yahoo adress is donnauponna ( I know... pretty lame ), and I hope someone can give me some pointers. Thanks again, Donna
Guest guest
Hi, Thanks for getting back to me. I have been in touch with the chapter leader, she doesn't know of anywhere in Alberta for raw milk either. I have been online trying to find out but with no luck. I have called the Alberta Department of Agriculture and they didn't know. When we lived in BC we raised goats and drank their milk, and when we were on Cortez Island there was a little farm that sold raw milk, but that was over 25 years ago. I can still taste it though! Maybe this is just another good reason to move back to BC. I will keep trying though, and if anyone has any ideas where to search, please let me know! Guest guest
Hi there Jacki... Welcome to Sydband, we are very happy to have you join us. Not sure if I am a good role model... but I have been banded about 18 months. There are quite a few of the gang who live out your way, so keep in touch and they will touch base with you before long. We are a very social lot, usually our social outings revolve around food and eating out. We tend to do this because it is social, and it gives us a chance to sit around a table and talk. We have a polls section where you can go to on the home page and have a look at what is happening. There are also a few outings that involve walking and then of course the inevitable coffee and more chatting after the walk. Look forward to getting to know you.
