Guest guest
Hi, all. I'm fairly new to the group and to RA. I'll be starting Plaquenil after I see my rheumatologist tomorrow, since getting a second opinion from a " city " doctor last month. Now that I'm starting medication, I feel that I am an official member of our exclusive club. Well, at least I have you all to help make the emotional side of things easier. Question today (I'm posting a second question as well, but as a separate thread to make it easier for others to follow): I would like to do some sort of exercise to maintain my muscles as much as possible. Going to an aquatic exercise class is not practical right now. Can any of you recommend any type of exercise equipment (stationary bike, treadmill, etc) that would be easiest on my joints and provide the best aerobic workout? Thank you for your suggestions. Guest guest
I have RA and my feet are what is affected. I go to the YMCA 1-2 per day and do 30-60 min. of cardio. I obtain this in the form of treadmill one day and stationary bike the other day. I like the treadmill the best but my feet complain when I do it daily. Another choice is the elliptical. I personally don't like the elliptical. It is very awkward for me and makes my knees feel weird. My rheumatologist recommended the rowing machine as another good source of cardio so I also do that too. Terri [ ] Exercise equipment Hi, all. I'm fairly new to the group and to RA. Guest guest
I tried to as this via web but for some reason could not get through. I bought a dvd from http://www.arthritis.org that has been really helpful and is not so strenuous. I am unable to do aerobics so this is really good. It's called " Take Control With Exercise " and you can do it at home when you can't get out to the gym and no expensive trappings are needed, just a chair and a stretch band and if you choose to also do the floor exercises, a mat and a pillow. the cost including shipping is $19.95 + shipping. Best thing I've found so far. It has helped me some with balance and that has helped me to begin resuming some of the Tai Chi stances. Leona I have RA and my feet are what is affected. I was wondering if any of you have purchased any of these and if so what do you think about them. Are they easy for you to use or not??
