Guest guest
Unfortunately there are all these crazy firebugs who are now committing arson and we barely have a enough firefighters to go around. There are almost 20 fires burning now. Luckily we are close to the ocean and we have Super Scooper aircraft and water-dropping helicopters that can make trips back and forth between the ocean and the fire and also large lakes that may be nearby inland fires. My husband laughed at me yesterday when I suggested they modify 747s to pick up water. Today I saw a DC-10 dropping thousands of gallons at once on one of the fires! Ha! > Wow, I can't imagine. Guest guest
You know what's worse for the vegetation? FIRE! lol Over 300,000 people have been evacuated from their homes. We opened up our home to autistic families and we've now got 5 autistic kids and probably 3 more coming later today. Fortunately is at school or else I think she would be completely overwhelmed. I'll try to help her cope later, but these kids need a safe environment amid all this chaos. > Of course, > I'm sure salt water would not be good for a lot of the vegetation, > either. Guest guest
That's a terrific idea . How did you find the folks that needed your help? We're in the Antelope Valley so the closest fires to us are the ones affecting Santa Clarita/Agua Dulce and Castaic. I know some of the animals have been evacuated to the fairgrounds here. I have no idea where the people are going. My dh's boss who lives in Santa Clarita was evacuated yesterday and they didn't come up here. It seemed like they should've but I guess they didn't want to be that far from their home. In the mean time, my brother's been going through quite the ordeal in Rancho Bernardo (San Diego). They're in one of the few neighborhoods that wasn't evacuated and I wish they'd just evacuate themselves! I don't like that they're still in there. But they feel lucky that they can stay in their home. They were housing a few families and their animals since Sunday night but when it started looking like they'd have to evacuate too those families left. They live right next to the Scripps ranch development that lost over 2000 homes in the fire 4 years ago. That whole area was evacuated yesterday, but not my bro's neighborhood. They lived in a different home until 2006 and it's probably gone now. That was one of the first areas to be evacuated when this whole thing began. Well, I'm really feeling for all the ones that have lost their homes. It's just terrible. ----- Original Message ----- From: cathylynn2 We opened up our home to autistic families and we've now got 5 autistic kids and probably 3 more coming later today. Guest guest
, I just did it by word of mouth, actually. I knew the first family personally (from son Ranch) and then they pretty much referred the rest. There are SO many of us! I've got friends in Ranch Bernardo too, and I haven't been able to contact them. I fear they've lost their home as well. > That's a terrific idea . Guest guest
I understand you've got quite the support group down there. If you need anything I've got a church network of people close to you that could certainly help you out. And I'm not very far away. I'm sorry to hear that you've not been in touch with your friends in Rancho Bernardo. That's very upsetting. I've never heard my bro so worried before. You must be dying from the smoke down there. We usually see smoke when fires are in your area. But not this time. It must all be blowing the other way, which is really strange. We can't see the smoke but boy can I feel it in my lungs. Take care of yourself! ----- Original Message ----- From: cathylynn2 , I just did it by word of mouth, actually. Guest guest
, Thanks! I'm hoping they were evacuated safely and are just out of range of communication now. The smoke is much better now, but for a time it was just unbearable. Literally you could not see three feet in front of you. Lord knows how many toxins we will be breathing in for weeks to come! Hey, I know... if everyone wants to help, do a RAIN DANCE! Wouldn't that be some miracle? It rained last week....why not now?? Take care! > I understand you've got quite the support group down there.
