Guest guest
Tony: Your friend is in the UK, and I mentioned trucks in mainland Europe. I agree with him that there are many trucks with vertical exhausts. However, in Holland, Germany and Belgium, I saw plenty of trucks with the exhaust located as I mentioned. It totally, and quite literally, blew me away. I can only speak for Holland, but I disagree with your friends assessment that " Europeans don't like to contribute to the pollution of the air, as the USA does; hence the more modest choice of car. " BS! (And I don't like his us versus them assessment regarding pollution.) The abundance of smaller automobiles there are primarily a factor of two things: 1-The cost of fuel is nearly $6US per gallon, and 2-The government taxes larger displacement engines; at the time of purchase and with annual fees. Therefore, it is by far a matter of economics, than one of environmental stewardship. I saw plenty of polluting, stinky little cars. And Yes...There are lots of BMWs, Mercedes, Rolls-Royce and Jaguars to rent, the choice is all there. Quite expensive too! I preferred my relative's free use of their car.
