I didn't read the original post that you are referring to below. I have 760

unread messages in my LBDCaregivers mailbox!!! But I wanted to share with

you that my mother is 78 has been diagnosed with LBD since 1999, has had

symptoms since probably 1995. She tends to have periods of decline for a

few months and then plateaus for a long time 8-12 months. The last two

declines were actually from other acute conditions, the first being a

moderate stroke in Nov 2001 and the second being a virulent UTI in May of

2003. Each time her physician ordered her in hospice because she assumed

this was the beginning of the end. She will most likely be discharged from

hospice for the 2nd time in October when the 6 months medicare allows runs

out.

I keep trying to tell Hospice and her doctor that from what I have read on

this list, LBD can look like end stage for years before it actually occurs.

They all nod their heads and say they understand but my intuition tells me

that they are thinking " Oh the daughter is in denial that her mother is

dying " . Meanwhile my mother keeps on trucking, FULLY impaired, but still

present. The first time she was ordered into Hospice, she told a caregiver,

" I hear everyone talking about me dying, I don't want to die " . She normally

could not get a clear sentence out but she was able to communicate that

absolutely clearly.

I believe I will know intuitively when it is nearing the end. Nobody will

listen though. They all see her as half-dead already instead of a

fully-alive human being that is impaired. Recently I read an article that

advocated that people with dementia should be considered disabled rather

than dying. That way health care providers might think more about quality

of life than just getting by until they die.

Last night I was visiting my mother and I asked her in the middle of the

visit if she knew who I was. I started doing that when she didn't know who

I was due to a UTI clouding her mind. So now I always ask and sometimes she

says " Of course " or Yes pleasantly or " where are the boys? " her grandsons.

But last night she didn't answer so I said to her caregiver, " I think she

may be annoyed that I ask her that all the time " She immediately cracked a

huge grin! I do know my mom. She also cracked a grin and laughed the other

day when I jokingly referred to myself as her " Mishugge Daughter " . Mishugge

means crazy in Yiddish.

Hi, ,

This morning I read your post about your mom's doctor thinking your mom

only

has a few more months to live. Do you mind me asking what leads him or her

to

that time frame? It seems so hard to know what the future is with LBD so I

just wondered if there is some sign that would be an indication for which

we

should be looking.

Hugs,

Piper

KJ,

Please check with the Hospice. I think you can only go on and off

Hospice 3 times and then it won't be paid by Medicare. I don't know if

there is a time frame to the 3 times or what, but I do remember the SW

saying we could go off and on 3 times.

Thank you for the information.

Not sure at age 85 she is going to accept any change to her diet but it

can't hurt to talk to her about it.

Hi , it wouldnt mean much change in diet. Only a sprinkling of

powder on her breakfast, lunch and tea. The biggest change has to be in

your belief system. If she still has the willingness, look into it

seriously for her. There will be a lot you need to look into and listen

to before you can talk to her about it.

If you want any contacts to Doctors who are in the know, I will

endeavour to get contacts for you.

All the best, Ilse

Thank you for the info. She is still having TIA's so not sure we want to do

any thing at this time but should she turn around we might consider.

:

My condolences go out to you and your today. I know we've known the

end of the illness and what it meant but I imagine it's still so

difficult when we're faced with it.

The only way to make sense of any of this is that your mom is no

longer suffering. No one, least of all her, wanted her to go on that

way.

I'll pray for you and your mom again today and recall that she's no

longer troubled by LBD.

Abby,

We handled it well. Dad is even doing better than we expected. They had been

married for 70 years. Not sure how he will do after all of the other

siblings have gone home. We will just take it one day at a time.

, I am not sure who makes it. Our chiropractor had to order it, he

didn't have any more in stock. Glad that it works well. Abby is having a lot of

hormone induced anxiety. That period will be coming any time now. I just know

it. Not looking forward to that at all. Abby had several full blown anxiety

attacks over the last few days. Last night, she was back to her normal self.

She gets so sad and cries inconsolably during these attacks. It is my hopes

that the D-Stress will help. Over the past week is the first time that we have

seen this behavior from her.

Who probably needs a little D-Stress herself :)

Pennie,

is doing great! Back at school like nothing happened. She is

an amazing healer.

Is D-Stress made by Synergia? That one is really good and primarily

contains magnesium glycerophosphate, which is great for stress, the

amino acids taurine and arginine, and b-vitamins, also for stress.

Very safe and works well.

That to me sounds like classic autoimmune symptoms but so many overlap

I dunno how they keep 'em all straight. Endocrine problems (endocrine

are glands, like adrenal, thyroid, pituitary) could have both low

pressure and weight gain, depending on which hormones were getting

activated.

I don't know if this would help your kidneys or not, might upset your

stomach, but my grandmother was told by her nurse practitioner to take

lots of vitamin C each day, like 5,000 mgs or so. The vit is

water-soluble which means when your body gets all it needs the kidneys

take out the rest, and evidently when the kidneys get lots of extra

vitamin C it helps prevent infections. If you decide to try it, you

may want to take 1-2 tablets in the morning after a meal, then 1-2

more in the afternoon or evening with food to help keep it from

hurting your stomach. Granny went several years without urine problems

after she started doing that but it doesn't help everyone.

Have you ever been tested for yeast in your poop? The reason I ask is

that if you took a lot of strong antibiotics for h pylori it's

possible you got a lot of yeast growing, which would cause dizziness,

mouth sores, and bowel/gut problems.

I dunno about any of it, just thought I'd mention it, I'm sure

will get you fixed right up!

HTH,

Debi
