Guest guest
Meg, Thanks for bringing this up as Cody's Dr. had never mentioned it. Cody started around then or possibly even a " hair " earlier, lol. I thought it was possibly the dilantin he was taking. His barber said he'd " never " seen hair that thick in his 30 years of work. I'm going to try to contact his Dr. about this, please keep us posted & I'll do the same on what I find out. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to all of our group & our kids we love so. Best, K. Guest guest
Meg, Kennedy has been getting a lupron injection every month for about the last year. The doctor noticed her looking alittle too developed at a yearly check up and sent us to see a endocrologist(sp?). They ran some tests and started her on the lupron. It is stopping her from developing until it is time for her to. and Kennedy(7yrs.,pmg) http://www.geocities.com/kenjenjennings/ > >Reply-To: polymicrogyria >To: polymicrogyria <polymicrogyria > >Subject: Precocious Puberty >Date: Tue, 19 Dec 2006 03:37:12 -0800 (PST) > >Hi, all. > > Haven't posted in awhile, but I am freaked out because Teddy (age 7 3/4, >with bilateral perisylvian polymicrogyria) has a few pubic hairs (not fuzz, >but dark and curly) on his scrotum. Guest guest
Interesting topic. My Daughter Amara is dx with polymicrogyria. She has been growing off the charts since age 2.......She is 8 yo but looks about 12. I have consulted 2 endocrinologists who ran extensive tests and did not recommend the lupron treatments since she had some symptoms but not all and her levels were not grossly out of range. She currently has to use deodorant and does have some pubic hairs. she also has slight breast buds. however the drs were not sure whether all of this was due to her rapid growth and thus tricking her body into thinking she was ready for puberty. I wonder how common this is among our kids? She is just under 5 feet and weighs about 120 pounds. Mom to Amara age
Guest guest
He is definitely entering puberty. My son at 10 1/2 started puberty the same way. Ask the endocrinologist( go see one if you haven't) and ask what Tanner Stage he is in. Trevor went from Tanner 1 to Tanner 3 very quickly. Unfortunately, I was told that if he would have to have shots monthly to stop the puberty. I hope this is not the case for you. The endocrinologist would be the one to determine that. Good luck and let us know what happens. Donna Delzer Rockville, MD
Guest guest
This is a new one for me. My step daughter started menstration at age 11. At 14 she is 4' 7 and weights 125 and wears a 36-C bra. However she does not need deodorant, don't think I've ever seen her sweat which I've thought was strange. What is the concern about precocious puberty, other than they go through it early? Are there any serious ramifications of it? Penny M Diskin wrote: Hi, all. Guest guest
Thanks Meg, Think it's too late for nela at 14 with a height of 4' 7, she has the short stature. Because of her cognitive level being at between 9 and 18 months I don't think there were any social/emotional consequences for her developing early. It may be a good thing, with all the AED's she has been on and the ACTH at an early age, that she wasn't treated for precocious puberty too. I'd would have been afraid of what, yet another drug, would have done to her. Probably better that she went through puberty when her body wanted to and not to have artifically delayed it. M Diskin wrote: Well, it sounds like an endocrinologist is in our future ... The " side effects " of precocious puberty are short stature, since the growth spurt occurs earlier than normal, and social/emotional consequences of early puberty. Guest guest
I don't think Allie fits, she will be 8 in a couple of weeks and is starting to look *slightly* more rounded in the chest, no menses or anything like that, either. We had her hormone levels checked a couple years ago & everything was normal for a 6 yr old. Guest guest
According to our dr, Precocious Puberty is girls under 8 and boys under 9(not positive on the boys though). It consist of the girls developing breats and starting their cycles. This has been an ongoing battle with our drs for atleast a year. Dakota has developed pubic hair only so far. No cycle or breast as of yet however all of her hormone levels come back in range. I have been battling the Drs because our endocrinologist basically have told me I am imagining things though they have yet to look at her. I KNOW what I am seeing with her. So far she is used to it so she doesn't ask me any questions about it thank the lord because I have NO idea what I would tell her at all about it. I know this is a possibility with the other disease she has. She has a thyroid syndrome called Albrights Heriditary Osteodystrophy Syndrome wich about 50% end up having precocious puberty. I have it, and both my 7 yo and my 4 yo have it. Both girls are being evaluated for PDD and/Autism Spectrum currently wich the Drs believe is actually due to the Albrights. My 7 yo current diagnosis list is as follows: Albrights Syndrome,ADHD,ODD, Developmental Delays and undiagnosed mood disorder (basically its an mood disorder but they can't figuer out wich one) She was on prozac at 3 and they have her now on trileptal though I don't see any difference to when she is off of it in comparison to when she is on it. She has had mood swings/tantrums since she was 18 mo old. She cannot tolerate change in her schedule/patterns. Holidays and summer break has been hard for us so far. Anyways Is hould get back to work. > > > In a message dated 7/10/07 6:32:19 PM Eastern Daylight Time, > minniemouse27_2000@... writes: > > Has any of your girls developed percocius puberty that is on the spectrum? > > > how young? now a days for a girl to start at 8 is considered normal. > although i dont think it is...lol. most started when 10 or 12 when i was that > age. it seems to be younger and younger. > eric abbys dad > > > > ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. > > >

Guest guest
Dakota was beyound chunky for a while actually extremely obese because of her thyroid she was 72lbs by age 2 and 90 by time kindergarten started but when she began school she was put on Adderall and lost 35 lbs in 1 yr. She has hovered between 65 and 70lbs for almost 2 yrs now and the Drs are very happy with her progress. She is quite tall though we know this won't be the ongoing. Her Drs have told me she will not reach 5 ft most likely because of the Albrights. I look at pictures from the time she was 3 to now and it is like looking at a totally different child. Quite amazing. I have had many people ask me what I did but I really didn't do anything to be truthfull. > > > >> What do you mean by percocius puberty? > > > > > > > > > > ********************Confidentiality Notice******************** > > > > > > > > This message is intended for the sole use of the individual and > > entity to whom it is addressed, and may contain information that is > > privileged, confidential and exempt from disclosure under > > applicable law. Guest guest
, I would suggest trying to get in touch with Dr. Geier, his practice is in land. The reason I suggest is that, if I remember correctly, there is more than one way to test for hormone levels. I can't explain it, but one way is a very large range which could mean a high level is still within " normal " ranges, even though it's too high. He could explain just what test to have run and is usually very good about giving suggestions to doctors and he does it often for FREE!!! I don't know, he may not be able to help, but I got to meet him & his son, they looked over all of Allie's tests for free without asking for anything in return and gave their opinion on stuff. I believe strongly in the mamma gut!!! I was talking with our doc, who was telling about his son getting sick, supposed stomach virus for 2-3 days & how his wife & MIL kept saying something more was wrong. He kept blowing them off, since he's a doctor himself, and a couple days later he awoke to blood everywhere, he had developed a significant immune complication & began bleeding internally. It was the mamma gut all along!!! HTH, Debi

Guest guest
My little niece has of two very rare forms of dwarfism and she is of to have thei very early puberty even though she had of no breast she did develop pubic hairs and monthly very young. she will not be be very tall. When she was eight she was not taller than an 18 month old baby. She is of very preceious to me and has the best personality and outlook on life as a young teen girl now. one boy called her a name that was not good and she looked at him and told him he was very rude and she socked him in the nose. Of course both kids got into trouble but she did defend of her self in that. the teacher shared that she was in private happy tyhat my niece finally did that to him because this child was bullying off an on to her and she finally hit him and he stopped after that. she was not much taller than 2 foot at the time in first grade but she did cause the boys nose to bleed. She has a very tiny animated squeeky like voice and when she is upset she places her hands on her hips and expresses herself quite well when she is feeling violated by others words to her but she is never rude or offensive she just politely defends her dignity which to me is a strength in her . Guest guest
With Allie she is showing physical signs probably about 1 yr earlier than her NT older sister both visually and through ultrasound; hormone levels show significantly skewed patterns. I wouldn't worry much about just some physical signs or just some skewed lab tests, I do believe different children develop at rates not clinicially documented with lab testing and that doesn't equate to a problem. I like the way Dr. Geier put it to us, if Allie was a typical girl cognitiviely, typical growth-pattern, and typical physiologically having a cycle at age 8 in and of itself might not be a horrific issue. I think like so many other things in autism, we have to look at all the issues holistically to know how to treat. From my observations extra weight is often the first sign of development, I've seen it from a lot of the girls at my daughters' school.
