Guest guest
Hi Bri, Well, I would say you can make a post and ask about anything you would like, so ask away if anyone knows of this doctor. There is a guide on the ocfoundation.org website that gives questions to ask and what to look for in a therapist. You might find that helpful to reassure yourself. The key thing is to ask if they do ERP based CBT. Are you in Vancouver? I am in Ontario, Canada. I know one parent in Vancouver, whose daughter is in the hospital system, I could ask her the name of her doctor (psychiatrist). If you are in Vancouver and within the hospital system, if it is like Ontario, you start with a psychiatrist and then they asses if you should see a psychologist. I advise people to go ahead with that route, as it is covered by health ins, but to look privately for a psychologist, as this is the one who will do the ERP/CBT. Not sure the situation where you are? What is the group you are going to? Just curious! Keep us posted! My side of the family has OCD, bipolar, anxiety and my husband has a mix too. > > I have been to the OCD website and found that the group I'm going to tomorrow has one dr listed as an OCD therapist...is it ok to ask about specific drs here? I mean can I post a message w/a drs name and ask if anyone's had experience w/that therapist? I just need to know if I'm going in the right direction therapist-wise. My family just moved to Northern VA and I know nothing about the therapists in that area. >
Guest guest
Hello! If this helps anyone, s Hopkins is running a research study investigating the genetics of OCD. I heard about it from the OCD Chicago spring newsletter. Here is the link to their site. http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/ocd/progress.asp I have signed up myself and my daughter to participate and am trying to talk my brother into participating as well. There is a 2.5 hour interview plus blood samples required. Hopefully these research teams can figure out OCD and save other families in the future a lot of heartache! > > Hello. My name is Bri and I have 3 young kids. Two of them, ages 6.5 and 8.5, most likely have OCD. I've been reading posts on this list for awhile and they describe my kids to a " T " . My question is: my kids also have traits common to children w/asperger's (my 8 yo was dx'd w/this when she was 4) and they have severe sensory issues. They are also super bright....how would I determine whether they have OCD or aspergers? They seem to overlap in so many ways....could a person have aspergers w/OCD or is OCD a part of aspergers? My son is about to start therapy for OCD to treat severe oral aversions but I'm not sure if we're going in the right direction. > > I'm also wondering how strong the genetic component for OCD is? > > Thanks for ANY input! >
