Guest guest
See my post - " My son's OCD made him think I was contaminated - now my wife & son have left me " - 87492 Can anybody advise or help me please. I am looking to hear from other parents who have dealt with contamination where their child could not touch anything they had touched or be near them. My son's OCD has made my wife and son leave me. His OCD made him think I was contaminated so he became anxious whenever he was near me....
Guest guest
I'm sorry, I don't have any connections in England. Have you reached out to any OCD experts in your country who may know of similar support groups? > > See my post - " My son's OCD made him think I was contaminated - now my wife & son have left me " - 87492 > > Can anybody advise or help me please. > > I am looking to hear from other parents who have dealt with contamination where their child could not touch anything they had touched or be near them. > > My son's OCD has made my wife and son leave me. Guest guest
Hi - When my daughter first start to exhibit symptoms and was diagnosed shortly afterwards with OCD she one day said she thought I was contaminated but wasn't sure (I am her mom). I sat her down and told her it was impossible. That she was made from me (as is your son) and that it was physically impossible for parents to be contaminated. She bought it and 6 years later I am still not contaminated. I know that OCD is not an illness of logic, but I was very firm with her about it and it worked.  M Subject: Re: Are there any other " contaminated parent " members here in England ? Guest guest
Is it possible your ex-wife has OCD too? How is it that your ex-wife was so influenced by your son and so uninformed about OCD and OCD treatments? It may be a lot like a parent that drinks and let's her child drink ....not a healthy lifestyle. If she has more control over your son than you do I don't know how you can change this dynamic around. Is there anyway to gain custody of your son or more visitation rights. If you see your son regularly you can try to get him into cognitive therapy for OCD with you present. If you can improve your relationship with your son it may help the family situation. This is the path to family wellness. Even if your son is too influenced by your ex-wife you will get some validation and help from the therapist for your own well being. You can let your son know you love him and you want to help him. OCD doesn't like being bossed back, I would give him something to think about such as you love him and you want to be able to do some short small activities that you both enjoy again. Start small and short but don't give up. Even if he says no, work with him reassure him you love him and just want to take small steps (exposures) to reunite. I really think this type of strategy can help even if you can't get him to a therapist (if the suggestion makes him mad don't bring up therapy yet).
