Zoloft side effects

My daughter is taking zoloft for her OCD. She started on 25 mg, and we

increased to 50 mg. Her OCD is well controlled at this dosage. Since we

increased to the 50 mg, it seems as though she is more agitated and angry than

before. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms with zoloft? It is so hard

to tell what is normal teenage stuff and what is OCD or medication.

How high was the dose. We started at 12mg and increased very slowly.

With each increase I saw she had very restless legs and hands (she would shake

them and say I feel like I have to do this) in the

evening. This was always a time she had increased anxiety,

so although somewhat distrubing to watch shaking her legs it went away as she

got use to the medication (maybe a week).

My daughter never and I mean never got up to urinate until

she went on zoloft. I haven't even mentioned it to the

psychiatrist. I guess I prefer that then the panic at night

she had thinking about school.

I have tried to cut back on having her have milk at bedtime

which she likes. She has been on zoloft for about 8 months

she is 12 years old and up to 75mg.

I am not sure the increase from 50 - 75 mg made much

of a difference in outburst behaviors (hoarding type

outburts where she feels she has to get something usually)

but the panic and anxiety does seem reduced.

For some reason our child psychiatrist only wants to

increase zoloft for pure anxiety or depression and does not want to

see if outbursts are reduced with another increase.

Good luck!

The same thing happened to my daughter on Zoloft when she was 12/13, once we got

up to about 50mg the bad thoughts flooded her. We switched to Prozac 20mg for

about a yr and are now down to 10mg and she is doing really well!

We absolutely did with our son at age 9. Anything over 50 mg does it for us-

aggitated, angry, stealing, lying, swearing, fighting- general sociopathic

behavior. The higher the dose the worse the symptoms- not so bad at 50 but

terrible at 75 and worse at 50 than 37.5. The bad part for us was that he

needed 100 to even touch his OCD so we were kind of stuck for a while. We have

been weaning down for several years and he just went OFF a couple weeks ago-

still doing well from OCD standpoint. (now if there was just something to treat

a teenage attitude)
