Guest guest
That's what I heard too. We go to Huntington Woods Lutheran Church. I grew up there. Beth loves it and is in Junior Choir and Sunday School. They also Have Childrens church during the sermon that Beth goes to and LOVES. She'll be going to VBS too this summer Carol Latimer wrote: Cool. What church do you go to? The two closest to where I live are St. Owen's or the lin Community Church. The zoo sounds great. I just heard they have warthogs now. Crystal Breger wrote: That's the area I grew up in, and we are there alot! Plus we go to church out there too. Maybe we could get together at the zoo or something this summer? Ploveabby@... wrote: There are lots of us from Michigan. We are by the Detroit Zoo. Guest guest
Birmingham district is very good. I think it was last year when a ton of parents stepped up and basically overthrew the special education director that had no business being there. They got Oakland Schools involved and since then special education has become a high priority for them. Wish we could do that with Abby's district. Things are falling apart there. I have a meeting with some parents tonight to see if we can do a " Birmingham " thing. LOL Something needs to change, special ed is being swept under the rug. IEP's are out of compliance and there is not enough parent support to catch them on it. The same 3 or 4 of us that complain doesn't make as much of an impact as say 10 oor 20 people. Heck most parents don't even show up for their kids IEP's. Something not right there. Any parents from Ferndale Schools on this list? Guest guest
I work in a different school district in one of the autism classrooms and the teacher I work with went to school with Birmingham's current Special Ed. Director and she speaks highly of her. I am hopeful that Birmingham will be a positive experience with . The fact that they are so willing to help is hopeful. I am just nervous and scared of making mistakes as a parent. I don't really know what to ask for as far as accomodations. She did very well without them at her last school but there were only 8 kids in her grade, all NT, and academically was smarter than all of them. The problem was that she was isolated and teased but on the sly. The kids were very good at not getting caught at it and couldn't communicate with the staff what was going on in the moment. She is very, verbal and she's come a long way but she still can't seem to speak when she is upset about something so it's hard to help her get through it. It breaks a parent's heart when they can't help their kid. Ploveabby@... wrote: Birmingham district is very good. Guest guest
where is Birmingham district? Our new special ed director in the Kyrene district is new & sucks at her job. Even some of the staff are complaining. Does anyone know what the parents in that district did? Did someone just organize a bunch of parents & all just brought their particular issues to the district? Kim is going to another district for high school; here the elementary & jr high is one district, then switches to another for high school. I don't know that my dh & I are up to fighting to get her dismissed since we're leaving & we have other battles of our own to fight, like getting into a school that we want vs. her home school which is geared towards the gifted kids & not our population.
