Guest guest
Oh , I really feel for you. I have a very similar situation. I am checking my girl out for PANDAS too. So far it does not look like that is the case. My girl was sick at birth and I understand that PANDAS comes suddenly after a sickness like strep. My child was agitated from day one, and had a walnut sized lump under her ear that was always suspicious to me. I have tried medications that did not seem to help. I am trying Inositol right now and am seeing the best results thus far. Keep me posted. and I am praying for you; > I wrote a few weeks ago about my (almost) 16 yr old daughter, who is > struggling w/ OCD, and continues to lose weight. Guest guest
Hi , gosh, so sorry it's gotten so bad, plus the physical! I'm glad the doc switched meds. That was my thought as I began reading, try another. In the years I've been in this/other groups, some have had to trial thru the OCD meds, but when they get to *the* one that works, things can get so much better. Sometimes the combination of adding a 2nd med has done the trick. I know you didn't want put her in the hospital (I can imagine how I'd feel too), but that was a thought, they would trial the different medications while she was there. I don't recall why you were wondering about PANDAS, but until you can get her " stable " and pursue testing for it, hopefully Lexapro will work better for her. I've always felt so fortunate that the first & only one we tried (Celexa) worked so well without any problems other than tiredness. You might consider asking about a possible mood stabilizer also, if things don't improve. I know for some it has really helped with behavior, impulsive, physical actions, etc. You can take them with an SSRI type medication, often given along with it if bipolar or if history of bipolar in family, etc. Hang in there, keep us updated!!!! > > I wrote a few weeks ago about my (almost) 16 yr old daughter, who is > struggling w/ OCD, and continues to lose weight. Guest guest
 So sorry to hear everything you are going through. I do not know that much about the ed area (and this may have already been mentioned before as I have not been on in awhile) but I did attend the anxiety conference in March. During that conference, I attended a session on eating disorders when they go along with various forms of anxiety. I sat in because my 9 yr old has always had peculiar eating habits. The presenter was Dr. Bulik I believe, I cannot remember where she is from, Chicago maybe? But she has written several books on eating issues. While she was talking she mentioned that if the child gets too low of a weight/too poor of a diet then the ssri does not kick in because it needs a specific nutrient from the nutrition we get from what we eat. There were suggestions she made but I have to try to find the notes. I just wanted to write first and let you know. She specifically mentioned that most MD's prescribe ssri's and change them to see if one or another will work but they need the nutirents to help them kick in. Many MD's are not used to treating ed patients and either do not know this or forget when prescribing. She also said to make sure the MD does not prescribe birth control pills (to help their period kick in) as this messes with knowing when their body is normalizing again. Those were the two main points that I remember, but I will try to find those notes for you. You can also google her and her books and maybe there is more there. She also gave her email address and said anyone could feel free to ask questions so I am wondering if she also put that in a book or it may be on google as well. I will let you know when I find the notes. We insisted she take medicine (prozac 30mg), and go to therapy (which includes an MD, and a nutritionist as well as a therapist). She seems to be getting worse, lots of raging, physical stuff toward me, and today she threw a tinker toy though our basement window:( We ended up taking her to the ER last week after she was kicking doors, and shoving me as well as verbally abusing me. We tricked her by saying we were taking her to the barn (she has a horse) and then used the child lock and locked her in. She kept trying to open the door to jump out. She also kept hitting the window w/ a metal horse bridle, and even pulled my hair *while* I was driving. Security escorted her in since she wouldn't get in the car. She was calm once we arrived, but emotionally flat. We decided against admitting her cause really think that would make things worse! She continues to be extremely verbally abusive, and begs relentlessly for things!!!!!!!!! That episode seems to increased her anger towards me by 50% She also doesn't believe she has a problem!!!! When she is not being rude, she just doesn't talk to me. I'm scared for her, and can't seem to connect w/ her in any way. She doesn't even seem like the same person. We saw the doctor today and she switched the medicine to Lexapro, and added Abilify. I did ask about Pandas, but the doctor didn't seem to think she had the right symptoms. I *know* I would have to pursue that myself, but I just don't have the energy. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,
