Guest guest
We are in the process of switching my son's meds from liquid fluoxetine (prozac) to liquid sertraline (zoloft). (He is switching due to side effects from the prozac). He had no issue taking the fluoxetine, which he liked banana flavored. But when we switched to the banana-flavored sertraline (diluted w/ water per the directions), he balked at the taste. Was wondering if anyone out there had experience with their kids reacting strongly to the taste of liquid zoloft and if so what they did. There are very specific guidelines about what you can mix the liquid zoloft with, most of which (lemon/lime soda), my son does not like. Thanks, Kathleen
Guest guest
Wonder how it would taste in chocolate milk. I think my son would take anything mixed with chocolate milk. lol Thinking chocolate and bananas go well together, and maybe it would cover the taste up some. Is milk one that is allowed? Does it come in other flavors that might taste better? BJ > > We are in the process of switching my son's meds from liquid fluoxetine (prozac) to liquid sertraline (zoloft). Guest guest
My son takes his Zoloft liquid in ginger ale and tolerates it well. It is allowed and does not taste as sweet as Sprite. When we have had med " taste " issues in the past we have set up a " med taking station " . The medication is accompanied by something he loves that will take the taste away. First he would take his medication and then pop Skittles ( about 5 of them waiting in a shot glass) into his mouth immediately after swallowing. Guest guest
Our dd took liquid Zoloft in OJ. She wasn't thrilled, but was able to take it reliably. It wasn't banana-flavored however, so I don't know if that would work. Depending on his age and dosage, you might be able to teach him to swallow pills. The Zoloft pills are fairly small; our dd has just graduated to swallowing pills and it's so much easier. Guest guest
I know you need to get the current bottle taken, but can pharmacist use another flavor next time? Besides mixing it with something, I wonder if he chews on ice first (or hold a cube in mouth on tongue first for a minute) if that would sort of stop him from tasting it straight from the bottle/no mixing. > > My son takes his Zoloft liquid in ginger ale and tolerates it well. Guest guest
A lot of pharmacies will add a flavoring - maybe you can check. Otherwise, I always gave my kids a choice of a chaser when they have liquid meds. Guest guest
Sorry have not been on in awhile but caught this and wanted to post. My daughter could not stand the liquid zoloft. I tasted it and it is pretty bad. We switched to pill form and crushed it and put it in a spoonful of yogurt, it is a pain but she does much better with it. The liquids that they say you can use with liquid zoloft do NOT help cover the horrible taste of it! Guest guest
Thanks...my son has never had trouble taking medicine, but hated the taste of liquid zoloft. We had to discontinue and go back to the prozac. I read after the fact that the liquid zoloft has a higher alcohol content than the liquid prozac. Maybe that accounts for the bad taste? I think we will see if he can handle the pill form. Thank you. Kathleen Re: liquid meds To: Date: Wednesday, May 5, 2010, 7:42 PM A lot of pharmacies will add a flavoring - maybe you can check. Guest guest
My son takes generic Zoloft and the pills are very tiny and not a problem for him to swallow. At one point my son had to take Augmentin and the pills were huge. I cut them in half and gave it to him with a spoonful of applesauce. Maybe you can try something like that. Guest guest
We're using liquid generic prozac. Are there any restrictions on what you can mix it with?
