Guest guest
I had purchased a weighted blanket for my dd (13) when she was arouund 9. They are expensive, but I will say, it was one of the best purchases I ever made. I would like to get one for my son as well. Guest guest
What do the weighted blankets do and how would they help OCD/anxiety or do they? Guest guest
They are primarily, I think, for kids with sensory issues, who like deep pressure or the feeling of being cocooned. Some kids with sensory issues are hypersensitive, don't like touch, smells, tastes, loud noises. Others are sensory seeking, need extra firm pressure, hugs, strong tastes, and smells, loud noise. I'm sure others can offer additional input. Guest guest
summed it up well, the purpose of weighted blankets, vests, etc. Can make a huge difference with some children, to use these. This link is to a store/product site, but has a brief paragraph re the use: http://www.especialneeds.com/weighted-vest.html and this link goes into much more detail: http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/weighted-blankets.html > > They are primarily, I think, for kids with sensory issues, who like deep pressure or the feeling of being cocooned. Guest guest
This website gives a good explanation. I have used these techniques with my son. One way to integrate the activity to home activities is to ask them to carry groceries, or bring down the laundry basket ect... Isometric exercises are also good - chair push ups can be done in school to calm fidgety feelings. Good luck, Bonnie > > > > > > This was just posted in another group, so am > > copying/pasting here.
